Anybody have any practical experience with this caliber?
I have a friend who want's to re-barrel an m-48 mauser and is considering the 7.65 Argentine because the action is too short for 30-06 length rounds and he things the .308 is too short for it.
The 7.65 Argentine bullets are .311" and there is a good selection of them. Norma and priv make ammo and cases are easily formed from .30-06's.
Performance is between .308 and .30-06 with a good range of .311" bullets, including the Banres all copper 150 grain TSX and the Woodleighs in 174 and 215 grains. According to the customer comments at Midway, the .311" 215 Grain Woodleigh at 2,100 kills like Thor's Hammer in the .303 British. It should easily do 2,2090-2,300 in the 7.65 Argentine. Sierra, Hornady and Speer make 150, 174 and 180's cup and core bullets and Remington offers a 180 grain RN cor-lock.
