Peep sight for 45 Colt carbine
« on: October 31, 2010, 01:09:08 PM »
Just got a .45 Colt barrel from another forum member here.  Don't really want to use a scope so I thought I'd try a peep.  What is usually used on these? Will the front sight need to be swapped a well.  Thanks.

Use a Williams WGRS or FP peep sight, they mount in the existing rear scope mount holes. The front sight won't be tall enough so you'll need a Williams 0.250" dovetail riser since no one makes a front sight tall enough unless you want to go with a globe front sight in which case a Lyman #20 works very well.

See Peep and Firesights in the FAQs for more info, there's a link to the dovetail riser in the Sights section also.

Marbels dovetail peep is the way to go and the front sight will be fine.

I just installed this combo on my 45LC - the WRGS peep, 0.250" riser & 0.450 Firesight.  I just sighted it in yesterday, works great for old eyes!

S.E.AK, I like the looks of the Marbels sight, but it is very open. Does it still "trick" the eye into focusing differently like a true peep sight does? JamesIII

Yes it does. I use the longer ones and have had no problem and don't exxpect to. They are much stronger than they look, heavy steel. If you shoot this sight alot you learn to use it for more than the standard peep sight picture and the big ring as a quick getting dark ghost ring.
