missing pin on transfer bar!!
« on: October 26, 2010, 05:31:37 AM »
I just bought this 7.62x39 and went to shoot it and the top half of the transfer bar fell out, and the pin is missing. Anyone want to fix this for me? Or should I send the reciever to h&r.

You can't legally send it to someone out of state for repair unless they're an FFL, if you don't want to repair it yourself with a new transfer bar from Brownell's, you'll have to find someone local to do it, or make arrangements to send it to H&R, they may have a local gunsmith to send it to, I'd ask for a return shipping label to cover shipping.

Perklo's trigger hone info in the FAQs shows complete R&R of the frame including the transfer bar, Brownell's or Numrich are the only source for the t-bar, H&R won't sell them according to the owner's manual. Might as well learn how to do a trigger job at the same time!!  ;D

At only $12.99 is that something a shade tree gunsmith like me ought to have as a spare?  I have two actions but only one is a newer model with a transfer bar.

I need to replace the broken hammer in my 30-30 frame but I'm too much of a chickensh*t to try taking it apart. I probably won't be able to get it all back together. :-\

And if you dont mind voiding any potential warrantee, there is the 'eliminate the transfer bar completely' approach.
No reputable gunsmith will likely do so (liability is too great), but I keep thinking about it for mine in case somthing happens like on yours. Mine, however, are all long out of warrentee anyway.

Spanky.....you gotta get in there! It aint any harder (once you drop the pins) than your old capgun!

You can send it to a repair facility without FFl through regular mail and they can send it back. I sent mine in and they fixed it very fast at no charge to me. H&R has many authorized repair facilities throughout the states. Go to their website, pick one nearest, and call them. They will most likely tell you what they can do and if it will cost anything.
They are very friendly and easy to deal with.
