30-30 T0 309JDJ RECHAMBER QUESTION !!!!!!

I already done a search on this with no luck so here goes. I read a couple post that said a 30-30 contender barrel rechambered to 309JDJ could not handle the max loads published for the custom SSK 309 barrel. I have a s/s TC 30-30 hunter barrel with muzzle tamer that SSK rechambered to their 309JDJ and want to get all I can out of it as it will be used on whitetails out to possibly 300yrds (not that I could hit one that far)! I just loaded some rounds useing the data that comes from SSK for their barrels. It stated that with a 165grn bullet and IMR4350 the max load is 52grns. Any opinions on this load in a rechamber? The barrel is on a full bull profile if this matters? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

My first 309JDJ was a blued TC factory 30-30 Super 14 that was rechambered by SSK.   Did not have a brake of any kind.   Per JD himself, he said to reduce loads from his published data for the SSK 309JDJ in the TC barrel.   Been a long time ago now, so can't remember how much he said to reduce by, but I never tried full house loads in it becasue I also had an SSK CM 375JDJ at the time.   BTW, he stamps SSK on the lug of the barrels his shop rechambers, so you'll know if he did the job.

Next I had an SSK chrome moly 14" with the 4 port Mag-Na-Port, and now I have an SSK stainless 14" with full length T'SOB rib and no brake (one of a matched set of 4 - 257, 6.5, 309 and 375 JDJ's).

I totally agree with Ladobe. Ole JD has done his research and you should believe what he tell's you. Wether you call or send an e-mail he is very forthcoming with helpfull information. Please either call or write reguarding this issue. It's for your safety and those next to you at the range.

RLSmith, just caught up with your question. I have the same type of setup as you. I use 50.0grs(tops) of H-4350 with the 165gr BT. Shot an honest 7/16" group just the other day(3shots @ 100). Don't believe that I'll switch.  Pat :agree:

My .309 JDJ barrel is a rechambered Super 14 .30 Herrett barrel.  I do not shoot reduced loads except to fireform.  This barrel will keep up with a buddy's SSK barrel and sub-caliber five shot groups at 100 yards are not hard if I do my part.

I've taken 47 whitetail with this barrel as well as mulies, varmints and african game out to 300 yards.  

This barrel is nether ported nor braked and does exceptionally well.
