I'd say it is with good shot placement, it's right in the middle of the velocity range Speer lists for it.  I did a lot of research on the 6x45(6mm-223) for deer, that's one of the popular bullets used in it at slightly lower velocity, so in the 243 it should be good also, best of luck hunting IG.  ;)

 thanks guys..gives me some confidence..now to try for group. Heard things about the SL .243, but hopefully it will be good for minute-of-boiler-room on whitetails.

The SL I had was a shooter, for 2 shots.  Then up and right.  I found that 85 gr or 100 gr both shot well.  Lighter ones, not so much.  I had to sero the scope over a period of 2 or 3 days.  Cold barrel was lights out accurate after that, but they are not for high volume shooters.

Thanks Geezer;
    I hope I shall need no more than 1 shot..at least 2 at most in a given minute or so. I very deliberately pick my shots, so most of my deer have been one-shot jobs; the second if needed.."just to be sure"..

Realistically speaking... how many shots are you gonna get at a deer with a single shot rifle?
Probably one. ;D
Occasionally they'll stand around and let you reload if you miss but not very often... trust me... I know from experience. :-[ :(

If you do your part, have a sharp knife ready for the next step ;D. The sierra bullet you are using accounts for many many deer every year. The load (for all purposes) duplicates the time proven 250 Savage load also well known for dropping deer in their tracks. Go forth and enjoy! Good Luck and Great Hunting

I hope to find out in a couple of weeks.  That is almost the same bullet/velocity I am shooting in my 243 (non SL) handi with excellent accuracy.
