Gunstocks Inc
« on: October 16, 2010, 06:43:23 AM »
I am needing a stock and forearm for a project I am working on and have always gotten semi finished stocks from Gunstocks Inc.

Their website says they are currently not taking orders due to a backlog of contender and encore orders.  I called and asked if they had any idea when they would start taking orders again and they said no.  I then asked for a broad range like 1 month, 6 months or a year and they said they still could not say.  Seems weird you would not know what your backlog was in broad terms of months and years.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had anything on order with them recently and how long it took to give me an idea.  I am in no hurry, but might have to look elsewhere if it is going to be 6 months or more.

I just ordered a stock set from High Plains Gunstocks and was told I would have it in 3 weeks. Might want to check with them instead of waiting.

How much work do you want to do? I know of someone who gets in blanks all the time. I'm not sure if they are semi-finished or just blocks of wood.

Thanks, Dinny

I would want it semi-finished.  To me that means shaped and inletted and needing finish sanded and a butt pad ground in on it.

The original Contender stocks were always smaller than the Encore stocks and the last two I got from Gunstocks Inc were sized like an Encore, but inletted for a Contender and they were just the standard price.  I can see why they are so far behind.

Try Tony's Forends and Grips. He may have what you're looking for.

Luxus Walnut puts out some nice ones.  Below is a picture of one I just bought.  I don't know if they sell them unfinished or not.  But you might give them a call.  They might be able to fix you up.  They do TH and regular stocks.  Tom.
