need 300 win mag ammo
« on: October 02, 2010, 04:55:46 PM »
OK, deer season is coming up and I need some 300 win mag ammo, I was all set to order a box of federal 165 gr trophy bonded tip but I cant find em ANY where, every place I loo it sold out! So what is the next best bet for this season? Does hornaday use premium bullets in there ammo? they claim to push a 165 gr bullet down range at 3200 fps.

Federal no longer makes 165gr TBBC, just 200gr, but site sponsor Midsouth has 180gr TBBC, and a lot of other 300WM ammo. Hornady has 165gr GMX and Interbond which are both premium bullets.

You may not really need premium ammo for deer hunting. It may be easier to pick up a box of Winchester Power Points or Remington Core-Lokt. A 180 grain in either of these two bullets has taken a lot of moose.

Yea, there's a bunch of good choices. You sure don't need Premium bullets to kill Deer with a 300WM, but with the extra vel, they can minimize the damage & more penetration for bigger stuff. Regular loads will sure work.

Decide what's important to you. About the flattest load I know of in factory ammo is the 130TTSX Fed Pre with 3,500 vel. The 165 Superformance shoots very flat, you have tons of choices as far as Deer loads are concerned.

Yes - Hornady does load Interbond bullets in some of their ammo. 150gr and 165gr.

So would this ne a good choice? http://www.hornady.com/store/300-Win-Mag-165-gr-GMX-Superformance/

Well sure it is & esp. if it is not a price issue for you personally, doesn't matter that others think it's high priced if you don't. I should be a very good performer.

I did not think they were high, only mentioned that because someone allways does!  ;D

Fortunately for me, I load my own & with top notch components I am still cheap, with loads designed to work
best in my rifle.
