45LC in a 410 Pardner?
« on: September 30, 2010, 11:15:57 AM »
Had a guy tell me that I can safely shoot 45LC's in my 410 pardner. I disagree because of the chamber depth of the 410. So I thought I would ask those who would know. Can it SAFELY be done?

No, the choke has a smaller diameter than a .45 Colt bullet.

The 410 is .410
The 45LC is .452

The 45/410 survivor can shoot either one... not a Pardner.

The partner smoothbore slug 410 I sold, measured 0.41" at the muzzle, this was after I had the choke cutoff.   I think the problem with the .452" bullet will occur long before the slug reaches the choke. ;)

Old farmers used to do it all the time. 5 feet, to put down an animal. They used cowboy/black powder loads with a pure lead bullet. I have shot 451 lead balls, in a 45ACP case with an O-ring around the base. Trailboss of course. And it works. 10 feet. The question is why. Here is a picture of my slug loads. 41 cal bullet, 3" brass shell, 16.5g Trailboss. Bore in the Tammer is 410, no choke. Shoots about 8" 25y. The patch is to hold the bullet in the case. These are hand loaded.

You shot a .451 lead ball through a .410 pardner shotgun barrel?  Why?
Not to speak out of turn but that ain't the safest thing to do. That's why they make the survivor barrel.
Maybe you should put a "do not try this at home" disclaimer in you post.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it Spanky, round balls have little bearing surface compared to a bullet.

No old farmers I ever knew plus 22lr is much cheaper and works very well on cows and horses. Disclaimer I only know them back to the 1940's but maybe  not old enough
