Whelen headed to the timber
« on: September 30, 2010, 03:27:43 AM »
"The Colonel" (M700 Classic Whelen) is headed to the timber.  My son and I will set up camp in the Snowy Range mountains just west of here (Laramie, WY) today.  Our elk season opens tomorrow at first light.

It's been two years since I hunted the Whelen.  In 2008 I carried it a couple of days but had no action.  In the past it has taken whitetail, antelope, mountain lion and elk.  Hope to have good news again in a few days.

I'm jealous, our elk rifle season in N. idaho doesn't start until Oct 10.  What bullet/load are you using? Good Luck and hope you get to "WHELENIZE" an elk.
