Brake Question

I have this super 14 stainless 223 barrel with a factory brake and as you hnow they tend to be rather loud so I was thinking of a couple of things and would like some input. My son owns a machine shop and can do the work so the mods will not be a problem.
The first option I thought of was to have a stainless sleave machined to cover the port holes but as the internal part of the brake is bigger than the bore is this going to create a preasure problem as the gases are going to try and go up and canot get out would that be a safty problem.The second option would involve cutting the barrel off just behind the first hole on the brake and then machining the barrel down to the came size as the barrel and putting a crown on it, I would wind up with a 12 1/2 inch barrel that might turn out to be as loud as it was with the brake so what do you think?

I think it would be quieter with the brake cut off. Why not just cut the brake off flush with the end of the muzzle and be done with it?

Or trade it as is for something else, like a 14" non-brake'd barrel. As soon as you cut on or machine that TC barrel, then TC will no longer honor any warranty on it. You'd basically void the lifetime warranty.

If I were doing it, I would cut the brake off and have the barrel recrowned.  I don't think a 12.5 inch barrel would be appreciably louder than a 14 inch barrel.  In addition to the point about the T/C warranty, also keep in mind that nonfactory barrel modifications most of the time hurt resale value.  Also, brakes aren't actually louder, they just direct the sound in a different direction that's more troublesome to the shooter.

It is for sale on contender forum but no response so was or looking for options and still use it, but you are right no factory warranty once you do something to it. I do have a blue super 14 in 223 and it is fine to shoot just not as loud or it seems not to be.
