Black Bear hunt in NH next weekend.
« on: September 05, 2010, 03:31:14 AM »
Next weekend I shall be off to the White Mountains of NH for black bear. I obtained a bait permit and my license to hunt black bear. This will be interesting as I am using a muzzleloading handgun for this particular hunt. A while back I obtained a G2 .50 caliber  barrel and had a gunsmith cut and crown it to be used as a handgun. So far I am impressed with the accuracy of the barrel. I have a bait site at 25 yards from my stand. The load will be 110 grains of loose H777 under a 300 grain TC Sabot.

Hopefully I will be able to provide a great report by September 24th. That is the last day  you can hunt over bait.

What length did you have it cut to? I have one in the works myself and was wondering what kind of results to expect.

Good luck on your NH hunt.

I killed a nice 230 # black bear over dogs with muzzleloader black powder pistol in NH about 9-10 years ago in the Tamworth NH area.

TC Contender frame fitted with a Gonic Arms 14" barrel with a dot sight in 45 cal. 100 Grains of Pyrodex P and a 405 gr lead bullet. Recoil was intense to say the least and very exciting stuff on a one shot kill.

Have fun and good luck!

Good luck, I live near the White Mountains and have seen a lot of bears this year. I had one in my backyard a little over a week ago. I haven't gotten into actively hunting bears yet but I always buy a bear tag just in case I see one while out hunting other animals. Somebody that my ex-wife knows shot a 450+ pound bear in the Conway area this year. Let us know how you make out.

Probibly won't help you at all, but today, I was out in  my little 3 acer corn fiels picking corn and bagging it, and I came acrost this big pile of fresh Bear crap!!!!  Now, this is right behind my home, and just in the edge of our little town, so to say the least, I'm a little concerned.

Told the wife to take a pistol out with her when she walks the  dog. Not to shoot a bear, but to make noise if she see's one. Getting a decent pile of baged corn out back to sell, and it probibly will attract critters.

If you want to, feel free to hunt them in my yard, LOL!!!
