Nope!!! Had a 1914 issue Springfield Armory WWI issue pistol. Barrel was shot out from corrosive ammo. Bought it in 1973 and sold it in 1983. Didn't learn anything from that debacle. Proceeded to acquire another 6 or 7 WWI GI .45's and got rid of them, too. Sold my accurized Series 70 2 years ago. Still have a Crown City I built in 1980. It gargles everything in sight. There is no cure for this gunaholic.

I haven't heard of Crown City Arms in almost 30 years.  Visitetd there once and watched them assemble and test the pistols.

Grandfathers commercial 1911 (not 1911 A-1) that he used to dispose of two bad guys when they held up his pharmacy in the late 1920's. They did not know he practised in the store room an average of 3 days a week with it. It is nickeled with beautiful Sambar stag grips. Yep, It is a safe queen. Now have three others -Colt Commander- Colt Lwt Commander-Colt Defender. Carry the Defender the most because of size and weight plus for some reason it feeds everything I can think of to feed it.

First 1911 was a Colt Delta 10mm. Bought it used several years ago, sold it, and bought it back a couple years later. Still got it.

Believe it or not, the  first 1911 45acp I've ever owned I bought this year. Colt WWI Centenial model used and is a pretty gun. got engraving on the slide, some gold filled lettering, gold medalins in the grips 2 on each side, nice pistol.

Someday I'll take it outside and even shoot it a few times. Bought it for SASS wild bunch matches.

Shot a lot of them over the years, but never been a fan of the 1911 or even liked them very much, but the two I have do feel at home in my hand as no other 1911's ever have.

My 1st was a problematic Llama. Kept losing the pin that keeps the extractor in the slide. Traded it off for a Westinghouse M91 Mosin-Nagant.
My second, and current one, is a Norinco. I'll never let go of this one. Shoots like a dream and eats any load I put in it.

YUP!! And I'll never be with out at least a couple!!

My first was also in the 80's it was a then new stainless Officers model. Added a Wilson grip safety and carried it many many years.

I also have a custom LWT series 70 comander steel gun. One of my favoritest.

Another is a Govt. model I built for my grandfather left to me when he passed is another cherished pistol.

The 1911 is one of my favorite handguns.

My first 1911 was a Colt Lightweight Commander, bought used in 1983.  Since then, I've owned dozens of 1911's, and currently have six.  All but one of my current ones are Colts...the lone dissident is a Springfield Mil-Spec that I use for shooting Wild Bunch matches with SASS.

Alas, the first one got traded for two other pistols sometime in the mid 80's.  I've let several other notables get away, including one that I recently reacquired by trade.  A couple of years ago, I set a general policy for myself that I would only acquire from now on, no more letting 1911's get away.

Right now, I have: Colt XSE Gvt., Colt Gold Cup NM, Colt Officer's ACP, Colt Delta Elite, and a Colt Night Defender.   All in .45 ACP, except the Delta, which is 10mm, of course.  The Delta has a Colt Double Eagle in 10mm as a partner.

My first was a Gov't Property marked 1911A1 made by Ithaca.  Bought it in early 70's for $80.  Boy, do I wish I had held onto that one  ::)

Mine was a Series 70 GM that I bought NIB for $318, including tax, back in the mid 70's. I'm planning on selling it soon and getting a S/S Commander....

Like Rotten RJ, my first 1911 was issued to me by my Uncle Sam in 1969.  That was the only weapon that I was issued in Vietnam, and prior to that I had only shot a total of 7 .46 acp rounds in my life.

When I got home from SE Asia, I was stationed at Ft Sill in Oklahoma.  I found a GI model Remington Rand 1911 in a pawn shop and that became my first centerfire pistol.  I took that pistol to the base range almost every night after work.  I could draw, free of charge, a box of .45 acp ammo a day at that range.  After a month or so of shooting, I became friends with the range NCO, and on days when he wasn't busy, after I shot my box of ammo, he would bring out 2 boxes of ammo, and we would shoot together.

I became proficient enough with that 1911 that just before I was discharged, the Base pistol team NCO asked me to try out for the team.  Back then, all I could think of was getting out and going home.

I still have that 1911 and have shot many thousands of rounds through it.  In 1972 or 1973 I shot my first black bear with it.  In those days, Colorado didn't have all the game restrictions that they have now, and it was one shot, one dead bear.

A few years ago, I inherited the 1911 that my Grandfather carried in WWI.  It's a safe queen.

I guess it is confession time.
My mind works in strange ways---its wonders I behold  :P.
I opted for Rollers growing up---I did not trust auto's. Too many stories about unreliability.
Roller were also less expensive.
It was about 10 years ago that I started considering 1911's.
Before that it was Sigs and Walthers---which were/are far more reliable, out of the box--as a whole.
I found STI's to have aVERY good reputation and that was my first 1911 purchase--about the year 2000.
Since I have discovered the joys---and expenses of a qualified Smith.
Well, Now-a-days , I enjoy the 1911's as beibg utterably reliable.
I did own an old commercial colt and a Mustang----they soured me on 1911's until I discovered Smith's.
Blessings

Unfortunately not.  It was a Springfield GI model that I bought from a friend 15 years ago or so.  Changed the barrel and sights and ended up selling it to another friend.  I tried to buy it back last year but he's using it in bullseye competition so at least it's being put to good use!

Nope!  I don't have my first anymore.  Actually didn't have it very long.  I picked it up in a small gun shop in Nebraska in 1963.  I was working a summer job while still in college.  It was a Remington Rand GI model that had been polished and reblued.  I don't know if it shot good or not.  It was my first centerfire handgun and I only shot it a couple of hundred times.  I sold it just before graduation because I couldn't afford ammunition.  I wish I had it back if only for sentimental reasons.

I still have the Series 70 Government I bought new back in the 1970's.   It continues to perform flawlessly and is my favorite among the several 1911's I have.

My first one was a Norinco that shoots like a dream.  Haven't done anything with it.  Never fails to go bang and put another round in the chamber.  My second one was a Ruger P90.  Not too bad but not a true GI 45.

My first and only 45 auto is a springfield XD. It is a great gun and affordable. Never had any problems with it jamming up or any other issues with cycling. Lightweight and cozy to carry. High capacity mags fit 13 + 1 in the pipe. Hopefully that will be enough if I ever need it in an emergency. Not a fancy gun by any means, but it does what I ask it to do every time.

My first 45 was a Colt 1911A1 I got from a WWII Marines widow in 1980. Gave her $100 for it. It was ruff looking. Most of the finish was gone and it had pitting on both sides and the barrel was really bad. Found out latter that the Marine had taken it off a dead Jap that had taken it off an American. He carried it through two island campaigns and left it stored in a drawer for years in the leather holster without cleaning it or even looking at it. Thus the rust and pitting. I cleaned it up really well with oil and steel wool bought a barrel, bushing and opt spring for $20 from a guy in the National Guard and polished and opened up the feed lip a little. That thing would eat most anything you put through it. Settled on a 200 gr. cast SWC and 7 grs Unique. I kept my family fed in deer meat with that thing for 4 years. I could kick myself for ever letting that thing go. Years later I got a SS AMT Hardballer with adjustable sights and had the Marine Corps armor for their pistol team at Quantico give it the once over. Man that thing is accurate.

My first and only .45 is an XD45 Compact. Received it as a gift in 2008.

I still have the Colt 1991 Compact that I bought gently used some years ago.  Never a problem. No Modifications.  Both my kids learned to shoot pistols with it.  This will be one of the last to go when the time comes.  Too much fun and too many memories.

Nope!  Was a Colt NM 70 Series I got in San Antonio back in '84.  NIB for $399 from a long defunct sporting goods chain.  Had a few over the years, but settled on 3, RIA GM, SA Loaded Champion, and a SW Target model all in 45 AUTO.  I gave the RIA to my daughter on her 18th birthday about a year and a half ago, she can shoot that thing like a house of fire.  Here are the two that remain.
