Hi Guys,
I think my next gun will be a TC Encore rifle. One thing i was told about them though is they are not as accurate as bolt guns because you cannot free float the barrels. Is this true? I would like a very accurate, flat shooting .270 for shots that could push 350 yards- is that asking too much of an Encore? Also does the 209x50 interchange with the center fire barrels[same frame?] Tanks-Tad.

I can not help you on the 209x50 but as far as the TC Encore rifle on being as accurate as a bolt gun.... oh ya!!! My TC Encore 223 with the heavy barrel and a 6 x24 Weaver scope will out shoot most (90%) of the guys at our range with their bolt guns. Maybe its because I have to take more time - one shot - but as the forearm does not attach to the rear butt-stock - I see no reason to free float the weapon. Mine shoots so well - I will leave it as it is. 270 out to 350 - if you have the capability - I am sure the TC Encore does. Mine shoots greats groups at 200 yards.

My 15' 06 encore can print .5" groups at 100 yrds, it took 1 1/2 yrs to get my Rem 700 down to that.

Whew, my heavy barrel 22/250 Encore can hang with the best of bolt guns. I have an 8x32 on it and boy, can I reach out and touch something. And here is more good news. I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Gieco.

I think the negative comments you are hearing about the encore are more likely related to the issue of consistency when removing and reataching the forend when switching barrels. You have to get a "feel" for how much torque to apply when attaching the forend. If you overtighten it one time and undertighten it the next you may notice a difference in your groups or POI. I too use rubber washers at the attachment points and have had a noticeable difference in the ability maintain a more consitent tension. There is also a hangar bracket system available that achieves the same purpose. You may hear of an odd barrel that causes problems but as a general rule the are reasonably accurate "off the shelf" Custom shop barrels may be able to squeeze out a little bit more for you but not always.
