Tikka Whitetail
« on: December 03, 2003, 04:28:41 PM »
OK, I've held a Tikka Whitetail with a wood stock. Felt wonderful and from what I see I can't go wrong with it. I've aways been partial to wood. Trying to decide though if I should go with wood or synthetic. Has anyone noticed any difference in the two? I know in the past, a lot of the synthetic stocks felt a lot different than the wood versions in other makes of gun. Is there a big difference in the Tikkas? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I have the synthetic stock whitetail hunter. The wood stocked guns felt pretty much the same as the plastic, maybe a little warmer to the touch. The plastic was molded after the wood counterpart.

I own a few Tikka WH rifles with Syn Stocks.  Normally, plastic-injected synthetic stocks are junk, and the only real good stocks are those from McMillan, HS Precision, etc.

However, the Tikka synthetic stock (not necessarily the new T3, but the WH syn stock) is actually much nicer than syn stocks from Remington and Winchester.  In fact, Remington syn stocks are the cheapest, in my experience, because they are the most flimsy.  Winchesters are a bit better because the shell is thicker and also has foam injected inside.

Still, the Tikka stock is even better.  I think it's because the Tikka's stock has ploy-something mixed in.  The stock just feels more solid.  Don't get me wrong, it's not as nice as a McMillan, or even HS, but it's better than most syn stocks.

Zachary is correct.  The syn stocks for the Tikka whitetail  is quite nice.  It is not hard or cold to the touch.  For syn. they are nicer than most you would come across.

One thing to note the Laminated stocks are generally heavier. I think my 7mm Rem. Mag. with lam. stock weighs 7 3/4 #'s. I think the syn. stock saves 1/4 or 1/2 # or so.
