45lc carbine brass sticking
« on: August 23, 2010, 01:57:21 PM »
Bought two of these little jewels.  At the range, one of them started sticking brass from the beginning.  What do you think, dirty chamber or will an oversize chamber cause this?  Had to pull most with pliers.  The other rifle  extracted fine.

Many have had problems with the extractor being too high, it extracts from the chamber, but then it's hard to remove the rest of the way, drags on the extractor claw, a little file or dremel work on the extractor claw with solve that issue.

Check that Ext. hook first anyway, but if you are in the +P zone try factory equiv. to see what happens and download from there. You might find a slightly reduced load that still does the job and extracts OK. If still nogo then see the FAQs about polishing a chamber.

You might want to mic the rounds at the ends and center and check for middle brass blow out.  The second one I received from the dealer had that issue.  I kept pushing them until I got one that was right.  ;)

I had the same problem as Tim described above with my 45. Extractor was too high and digging into the brass giving me a heck of a time getting fired rounds unloaded. Just a little dremel and file work will do the trick if that's the problem. As far as having an oversized chamber, set your dies to neck size to take up the slop in the chamber.

Boy I hope the Buff 45 I have coming has tight chambers, because I plan on using the same brass in my Ruger Bisley also, would suck to have to neck size the Buff boolits, and try to keep the brass separate. :'(

Me too!  Mine was sticky and hanging up....not quite as bad as some of yours but it was scratching my brass as I pulled it out as well.  As Tim said, just a little surface of the claw was taken down and it now works great.
