H&R 45LC Classic accuracy
« on: August 23, 2010, 12:51:28 PM »
I bought two of these little jewels planning to wring one out and set up as a grandchild's deer rifle and to set the other back for a little while. Put a scope on one and zeroed at 25 yards. Shot a 1"-ish group but was mostly just trying to get zeroed so didn't concern myself with the group. When I went to the 100 yd range, it patterned all over the paper, a 7.5X11.5" sheet.

I was shooting mild SSA level lead bullet reloads that are very accurate from my Rossi M92 lever, so I doubt the issue is with the loads. Also, I was limited time wise so didn't have a chance to muck around with it to see if I could come up with what the issue might be.

At this point, I don't believe I have a serious problem with the rifle, but thought I'd ask for some input on where to start looking first. I know that this is a popular caliber here and someone may be able to save me a few steps in the process of finding a solution. So....what are your suggestions?

If I don't say it someone else will.... Check the FAQ section, we all get sent there and learn from the same questions we all posted at one time or another and we got sent there and so we must send you there.... it is the tradition of handi holics. :)  Sorry I don't know about the caliber you ask but the questions all seem to already be answered in the FAQ.  Hope they help.

P.S. You are in the right place! This group does have most of the answers and you can' ask for a better bunch to hang with. Welcome! - Brent

X2 on the FAQ's. My .357 Mag Handi shot like crap when I first got it. 6" groups at 50 yards. After reading the FAQ's I decided to be patient and shoot a couple boxes of jacketed ammo through it before I did any more accuracy testing. After those two boxes it shot 1" groups from that point on.

hook, I used some cowboy loads when i first got mine and it patterend just like yours, I gambled and bought a box of buffalo bore 325 gr. loads(they kick like a mule and are not cheap) and from a rest my shots are touching at 50 yards with the factory sights. I would say follow the faqs, but like any other new firearm you need to find what it likes. for what its worth its now my favorite handi.
