barrel weight, new engleand firearms?
« on: August 21, 2010, 12:54:55 PM »
on the H&R website the super light is almost two pounds lighter than the 7lbs quated for all the other versions,  the question is, is that true.  Lets say I get a standard 30/30 barrel it should weigh less that a 22 inch bull 223 right?  I am trying to decided if I should get my boys the super light or just get the bull?  also on the buds gunshop webpage it shows 7mm-08 new england handi rifles with the H&R sb style numbers are those realy h&Rs?  if not are they made by the same place and will they fit new barrels to them.

thanks

The weights are rounded, so they're misleading, I have several Superlights, with scope they weigh about 6½lbs with a 10-12oz scope.

The pics at Bud's are old, H&R no longer offers the schnable forends and white line spacer recoil pads on Handis if that's what you mean, H&Rs are made in Ilion NY now, they were made in Garder MA until late 2008.

Tim,

So this should be a H&R?  http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/672/products_id/89139 I want to make sure I can use the H&R parts and the barrel program when they get more in.

Rifle weights are usually 'estimated' on websites.  When you see multiple calibers in the same firearm with the same weight, then you know their estimated.  Pistol weights are usually more accurate because weight is such a consideration when purchasing.

NEF/H&R are the same thing, although there are no NEFs being made any more, how it's marked depends on how old Bud's inventory is, but NEF/H&R were  made in the H&R factory, but there's no difference between an NEF and an H&R Handi other than the name on the frame.

The regular contour H&R barrels are in the 'heavy sporter' weight category, while the superlight contour is a 'light sporter.'  About a pound difference depending upon caliber.

My old H&R model 58 20" barrel (superlight contour) weights 46oz vs. 60oz for the standard 22" SB2 barrel - both in 30-30 with open sights and scope rails.
