First, thanks to all of you who post here with such great info. I sent a PM to TIm a few weeks ago and he was kind enough to get me started.
I was looking for a rifle to hunt with here in IN, so I needed a pistol caliber. I decided I wanted to find or make an American "Rook Gun" in .357. I wanted something light and fast I could shoot different loads in, for different game I might encounter on a trip or a walk in the woods. I looked at Uberti, WInchester and Ruger falling blocks, the Rossi and the H&R, which led me to this site and the Handi rifles.
I was originally concerned the handi would be too heavy, but reading the threads here I decided to find a TALO and make my "Rook Gun". My rifle arrived today and it looks great. I already had the Williams peep site, which I will install tonight. Next I intend to make the butt stock a straight Englsh and maybe make the forend schnabel. Has anyone done this on their own guns, or do you all just buy new stocks? How did you go about it?
Next, test it for accuracy and then eventually ream it to .357 MAX and add a simple Hawken style trigger guard. I should have it all done by next spring, but will make meat this fall, whatever stage it is in. I am really excited about this project.
