i think it's a great idea. i have had a couple elk hit in the vitals with an .06 that ran a long long way. some just dropped in a few steps. since i switched to a .375, 454 casull, or my 45/70 i get much much more dramatic results, no one runs far now. my bud just shot a mule deer with a 45/70 with standard rem 405 gr soft points. just flattened it, not the muzzle energy of a .308 there or even an .06 but man did it hammer it. very very little meat destruction too. i'd say the lott would be awesome with light bullets for caliber and give a great trajectory as well. i love 235 grain tsx or 260 partitions out of the .375. couldn't imagine the lott wouldn't do as good or better, makes loading and packing out a breeze. forget the light rifle argument, my .06 is a 15 lb bull barreled savage. i'd take the accuracy versus weight tradeoff anyday and it's heavier than your lott. take the 629 and the lott, if the shot is 50 yards or less use the .44 if longer use the lott.
