Thinking about a RB 480 but....
« on: December 01, 2003, 08:32:23 AM »
Don't know if they come in a 5" barrel version yet and if so, does it have porting.  I read Graybeard's product review and it sparked my interest but would like to know what kind of velocity decrease a shorter barrel would give with 370 and 400 grain cast bullets as velocities are usually quoted from 7.5" + barrels.  I'm usually a Ruger man but just don't like the SRHK models with the longer barrels and having the barrels on them cut back and a new sight installed just adds to the cost.  I would like to see some testamonials regarding the Taurus 480, so come on guys convince me to try one.....Thanks.....RW

Yes I'm pretty sure they now have all three barrel lengths available in the RB480. As to velocity loss from the longest which is 8-3/8" I doubt it would be more than 75fps or so. Call it 100 max and I don't think that much at all. Might be as little as 50 fps. Not significant at any rate.
