I have one in a remington model 7 lss, and I love it. It is light weight and accurate. I dont shoot it that much anymore, because after I mounted a zeiss 3x9 36mm my wife has taken it over. The old statement of what mine is hers, and what hers is hers is true!!!!!!!!!!

I have never heard anything negative about the Steyr.  I would do as much ckng as you can (looks like you already have started).  I dont know anything about them 1st hand but have thought them very intrigueing.  Let us know what you find out and decide.  Talking about Rem., Win, Sako, and Weatherby is getting boring.

Are they still selling Steyrs in the US?  I thought that I heard something a while back that the US distributor decided to drop the line.  Who, if anyone, is distributing Steyrs?

RWS (dnrws.com) is now importing Steyrs.  Some of the old stock (GSI   imports) are still out there.  Check Whittakerguns.com, he had Steyrs Pro-hunters at some great prices.  Around $450.00

RWS is a good company.  I trust that they will do a good job.

Just purchased a steyr forester mountain in 260 rem. about a month ago from Whittaker. Last week they had one 7-08 steyr forester(walnut version) left. Much nicer than the prohunter and you can buy a prohunter stock for 39.00 from cdnn investments which will drop right in. I have owned a 7-08 forester for about five years now and it is my favorite rifle . I also have the prohunter stock which is about 12 oz. heavier than the wood and has a flimsy forearm but points exceptionally well and has spacers that you can use for length of pull adjustments. The prohunter stock also has pillar bedding.  Steve

An argument can also be made for Savage products being excellent shooters OTB. Mine was and is a great shooter.
