Would this work in a contender or is it too hot?

It is the Remington equivalent of the Winchester .30-30...

Just off hand, I cant think of any AR-15 cartridge that is not safe in a contender.

Remington literature says the case capacity of a 30 30, but higher pressure and velocity.

Too hot at around 55,000 psi and a .473" diameter cartridge base for a Contender.  Now the old 30 Remington created back in 1906 would be a different story.

The cartridge would be similar in pressure to a 308 WIN. Should be no problem chambering in a T/C as it is not as "fat" as a WSSM - the question to me is why ?  The 30 AR shoots a 125 gr. REM CORLOK at 2800 fps - while not exceptionally impressive it does work in a standard AR type rifle and gives the shooter another option.  I do not see this as an improvement to include in my T/C barrels as I have a 308 WIN and can load a 125 gr. round to shoot over 3K or download to shoot at 2800 fps.

@saltydog .308 in a contender?

Just came across this on Wikipedia... "Other barrel makers pushed beyond the limits the factory set, and did chamber Contender barrels in lighter .308 class cartridges like the .243 Winchester. "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thompson_Center_Arms

Interesting as .308 is the larger end of what I like to shoot.  I wouldn't mind having a Contender, considering all the barrels available out there for less than .308 pressures.

Too hot for contender but would be fine in the encore.

      The .243Winchester cartridge has the exact same internal and external base demensions as the .308Winchester and is loaded to similiar pressures AND, it, and all the rest of the 308Win family are nowhere near compatible with chambering in a Contender or G-2!!!
