How reliable is your Glock 30 and/or 36?

I'm considering one of these Glocks for my CCW choice.
Which one and why?

I have a 36. Just as reliable as any other glock. Wont find much at all out there about glocks unreliability.

you in lot of gunfights Bowhunter? If a 1911 and a Glock aren't reliable for you I guess I don't know what to tell you. If you want ultimate reliability in a weapon consider a club. They never fail.

This is a major purchase for me and I'd feel better gathering good information from experienced users, with some good Q&A, as opposed to spending $500+ on a "mistake".

There have been many improvements in semi-autos over the last 20+ years, so I guess I need to be less skeptical of them. I have many years of experience with revolvers and they're very reliable, but horribly slow to reload. Not to mention that speedloaders are difficult to carry. Statistically, if you're having to reload in a self-defense situation, you're already in more trouble than you need. I shouldn't have even mentioned reloading, because I'm not carrying an extra mag. either.

It's more about the ergonomics of a semi-auto...the "fit & feel", for me they're easier to control with multiple shots than a revolver.

I have yet to shoot a Glock 30 or 36, or any of the XDs, but I own a service model M&P in 9mm that has functioned flawlessly. I've shot several 1911s and love them.

Perhaps the round count/reliability isn't that big of an issue, as long as a quality weapon and ammo is being used.

I had a Glock 30 and it was a very good gun, highly accurate, but it would not function with SWC (jacketed or plated) style bullets, otherwise with normal bullets it was 100%.

I can respect the idea of it being a major purchase. The major brand semi autos out there are very dependable. I have a little 45 acp ammo so that is why I went with a subcompact in 45. When I was looking the 36 was the best that fit my needs. The capacity is very low. If you took a 37 40 cal glock and put a 2 round extension on it to make it the same height as the 36 you would have an 11+1 vs. a 6+1. The 23 and 37 are readily available used around here for $350-400. The slimline 45s are not.

Personally I favor springfield xd over the glock for ergonomics. I absolutely hate the 21 45 acp. The xd 45 is a real good fit in my hand. As for dependability. I could not find the glock test. But found the xd being put through the glock test. So it may give you a little piece of mind if you are leery of the transition. I am a revolver convert. I only own one anymore. That is only because the wife carries a little j frame 5 shot. If she hadn't "stolen" it from me it would be gone as well.

I prefer the ergonomics of the XD too. The "fit and feel" of an instinctively fired weapon (used for CCW) is very important. Don't get me wrong, I think Glocks are good weapons, but they just don't fit my hand and of the ones that I've shot, I don't shoot them very well.

Thank you, for posting the test, it is good reading. I have been a handgunner for many years, but always with revolvers. In the early '80s, my first centerfire semi-auto was a Colt Series 70 Govt. model in 45acp. It was extremely reliable, but the accuracy was horrible. I sold it and purchased another revolver. Hindsight being 20/20, there were so many things that I could've done with that Colt to make it more accurate, but I lacked the knowledge...at that time.

I'm gonna have to fire and/or purchase an XD 45 compact.

my model 30 is my daily carry gun the thing is flawless eats everything i feed it 10 rounds of 45acp is definetly the way to go for me..just my opinion .... dave

On the contrary, the G36 is the one with the most sketchy reputation for reliablity. The G30, OTOH, is by all accounts "Glock reliable". Ya' just gotta love "Perfection".

Bowhunter57 I went thru the same situation several months ago. I have always been a huge fan of the .45acp. I have owned several sigs, les baer, and 1911's, but never tried a glock until I saw the model 36. I did a little research and it appears there were issues with the earlier models on feeding. I think the later models have been corrected. I have shot several hundred rounds of reloads and factory ammo with no problems. My gun came into the us about 9 months ago. The 36 fits my hand best with the +o pearce extension and it has become my favorite gun to carry, it just works good for me. And yes I am no expert, but I do have 28 years LEO experience before retiring in 04.

Since earlier this summer, my CCW piece has been a G36. I carried my share of Glocks as a former LEO and prefer a good 1911. However, as a CCW piece to be carried in the very humid South, whether working/sweating in the yard, walking the neighborhood or buying groceries at the local WallyWorld, the litttle G36 has few peers...IF you want a .45ACP. Most of the 'failings' associated with the G36 can be traced to EARLY production guns/mags. So far my G36 has been utterly reliable with 230 grain JHPs/FMJs. My only 'dislike' is that it doesn't 'feel' like a 1911.

I have had one Glock fail bad bad enough it was replaced and have broken several clubs I mean bats

now nothing beats a lead pipe

I have a Glock 36 Tritium sights with a Jarvis barrel and Aro-tek titanium guide assembly. I'd trust my life to this gun....nuff said.

Good day, I have the Glock 17,19,21,22,23,26,27 and 30, more than one of several of them. They have never failed to fire or hang up with stove pipes or failure to fire. I carry a 27 with night sights an extended magazine and it is deadly. Glock, a very good choice in CCW......

I shot/owned quite a few 1911's at various times. Great triggers, ergos -but- just too big for my hands. Glock 36 backstrap is a might narrow for comfort in my hands. I would choose the 30 if it 'fits' you.
I don't own a Glock 45acp, but I did get a deal on an 45 GAP, so I bought it ! I like the 9mm/40/45GAP grip size best of all. After stuggling with the weight and size of 1911's the Glock 38 works WAY better in CCW (for me).
Your choice, but I favor the 10 round Glock 30 for ACP.

I have a Glock 36 and out of all of my Glocks it is the most comfortable to carry. However if limited to only one Glock I would go with the compact sized 23 RTF in 40 S&W. I do not own a 30 but I do have a 29 in 10mm. I like the power of the 10mm and the light weight of the Glock compared to a revolver but the 29 and 30 sized Glocks are a little thicker than the compact sized models. The new RTF in 40 S&W with the dual recoil springs and rough textured grip frame have had very good reviews since they have been on the market.

I've carried a 21 for 15 years now and love it. I've thought about getting a 36, but I've got several K frame snubbies that are about the same size, and capacity, and it's hard to argue with a .357. The only automatic I'd want to have in a butt saving situation is a Glock. Caliber would be a .45. Get the 36.

My only bad experiences with Glock have been week mag springs and the slide failing to reset completely. This was the same gun. Also this was a tourist gun at a gun range and saw about 8K rounds a week(not a type-o). Also shooting dirty skanky Mag-Tech factory ammo. It outlasted everything except the Beretta 92 that was as reliable as a revolver. I say go for it.

I have both. I never carry the 30. The 36 is my carry choice. I have other Glocks to pick from, but the 36 conceals in a great way and uses the .45ACP, which I prefer over other calibers.

I own a 36. +1 on the ease of carry. The grip is so thin and rides close with a IWB holster. I added some Heinie Straight 8 night sights. It's now the perfect CC package. It's ball bat reliable too. If you can't get it done with 6 rounds of 45 ACP you need to quit. I'd look at and shoot both the 30 and 36. Pick the one that feels better. As long as it says Glock on it and the first number of the caliber begins with "4" you're good to go.

I carry a glock 36 so far have put 1000 Rd's thru it with out a jam however since my glock 21 does not like jacket 200 swc I do not use them in my glock's but other than that it really likes 200 gr gold dots +p ammo.

I highly recommend that you shoot whatever you're considering before you buy. If possible of course.

Years ago I held a XD45 Tactical while shopping for a Glock 20. While I could convince myself that the Glock could one day before mastered, I knew right off the bat that the grip of the XD was perfect for my hand. Fast forward to earlier this year, and my income tax refund meant I could finally get that XD45 Tactical I had wanted. I decided to go shooting one just to make sure it felt as good shooting as it did sitting still. While at the range I also rented accommodation Glock 21SF mainly out of curiosity but also to test the reverse of the Xd. Did it feel better shoot than it did sitting still. Much to my surprise the Glock not only felt better, it felt better than the XD. I bought the 21SF instead and now have have 30SF as well.

My point is not that Glock is better. For a lot of people it isn't. My point is that something may look and feel good at the gun counter, but something else may actually be more enjoyable to shoot. For me the 21SF and 30SF are superior 45's, as accurate as my 1911, and they support one another with mags and parts. You may find something else works better for you, but the 30SF is a great CCW weapon as well as being able to handle the 21 mags and holsters.
