this is my first post. my name is casey and i have been searching for a .223 for hunting yotes and other fury critters. i start the police academy on the 12th of this month soo money is real tight at the moment. i decided to go with a h&r .223 with the heavy barrel and the
3-9x32 scope from walmart for $297. this is my 3rd h&r that i have owned, my first was of course when i was 14 and worked with my pa cutting trees for a week and he got me a h&r 12ga for all my hard work. then i had a 500, but sold that. now i am on to the .223 and i must say i like it. its really a "handi" rifle. the scope that came with it is not as good as the leupold on my 30-06 but for a cheap scope, it will get the job done.

i will shoot it this weekend

I used to have a heavy barrel 223... it was a good shooter but no good for luggin' through the woods all day.
The cheap UMC ammo from wally world shot pretty good in mine... since you're on a tight budget give it a try.
If you decide to upgrade the optics you should look at the new Redfields... they're nice scopes for fairly cheap money. I bought a 3-9x40 for my 22-250 and I really like it.

Most importantly... GOOD LUCK AT THE POLICE ACADEMY!!

i am thinking on trying a pentax gameseeker 3-9x40. my dad just put one on his 25-06 and he loves it. there only $98.99 at swfa.com

Welcome Casey, this is the place to be and Tim is the Den Mother. You'll like your .223. I just got a standard profile and it is a shooter right out of the box. I half sighted it in at 30 yards with cheap Ruski ammo, and the weather turned bad so I quit. I, for no logical reason I can think of, took it out on my porch for a woodchuck at about 250 yards.....nailed him dead center. A day or two later, I nailed a pigeon at about or close to the same distance. Do I like it

It's not the best scope but like you I thought I needed to change it. Some say that their adjustments were backwards but mine wasn't like that. I decided to leave it on and just put some rounds down range. Three months later it is still own the rifle. Time will tell.
