A Bait Tip
« on: June 28, 2010, 05:24:41 PM »
I know many folks like to use chicken livers as bait but have a heck of a time keeping them on the hook. What we do is cut squares from an old pair of nylons just big enough to wrap around the baited hook. You set the baited hook in the center of the square, pull the corners up above the bait and hold them in place with a rubberband. The nylon lets the blood from the livers seep through but keeps them secure on the hook. They can't fly off when casted nor be sucked off the hook by fish too small to take the whole bait. Give it a try, it works with any soft bait such as dough baits too.

Good tip, thanks

We use the whole liver and a circle hook, wrap with sewing thread about 15 times, I prefer red thread, and I use a bubblegum colored worm slid above the hook on the line, no weight and free spool, let him run and cross his eyes.
We also use frozen beef blood, use a snap swivel and a trebble hook, take off the hook, take a small piece of wire with a small circle in one end, hook the swivel in the eye of the wire, push it  thru a piece of the blood about the size of your fist, replace the hook, gently place the bait over the side of the boat and drift fish, free spool till you get the depth you want, click over set the hook on first bite.. The blood is also good for strippers..
