more handi questions
« on: June 28, 2010, 02:29:03 PM »
okay are the youth and the youth super lights the same sb2 frame as a normal handi just diff stocks and barrels?  I was just on the H&R website and could not find youth stocks to order, did I just miss them or are they no longer selling them.  Also how much does it usally cost to get a barrel cut down?  I am thinking getting a 223 bull cut down to 18" and a 30/30 around 18" also for a good starter combo.  I might go 7MM-08 also but I load for the 30/30 already so I know I can load some low power rounds and work him up and well the 30/30 is still one of my favorites to shoot.

thanks
Carl

Frames are the same, you can order the stocks from H&R, you just have to call and ask(toll free (866)776-9292), you can also order them direct from Choate.

It cost me, if I recall correctly, 56 bucks to have one of my .357 Maxis cut and recrowned.  A lot of folks here do it themselves.  The trick is to get the cut square and the crown proper.  I believe it's in the FAQs.  It's wonderful you're getting a kid shooting.

Thanks for the replys,  the choate website has a great price on the youth stock!  I thought the frames where the same just wanted to check to make sure I could upgrade as they grow.  I waited to long to get the stuff for my oldest (daughter) and she lost interest in shooting.  I want to make sure I am good to go with the boys by the time they are ready.  I got to take my oldest boy, he's 8 with me a few times last year during deer season,  I think it was the best season ever and I never fired a shot!  even with the 50-60$ for cutting down barrels you can still get a handi and 2-3 barrels to your specs cheaper than most bolt guns!!  got to love that.

My smith charged me $68 to cut and recrown a 410 and D/T the barrel and install the scope base I provided.
