Poor barrel fit from the factory!
« on: June 28, 2010, 09:52:05 AM »
Just received my .243 and receiver back that I sent to get fitted. I opened the box to find that when I picked the gun up there was a rattle. You can hold the butt stock and actually wiggle the barrel when it is locked up. Even worse I called them and a women answerd and said that was normal. I knew better as my other two rifle are secure when locked up even the one I fit myself. I got off the phone and called back and got another gentleman who said no way send it back. He could actually here the rattling of the gun through the phone. How can something like this happen when 1 person fits this barrel and approves his workmanship and send it out. They are taking it back to fix but what a pain in the rear. Anyone else have this problem.

How could she possibly imagine that is normal.  There are at least 50 people here that would make better CS reps without factory training.

Wonder how many people she's told that to?

Probably should have asked her name, and then tell her boss!
Not to get her in trouble but that's just not a good business practice!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Just checking, but she's right in one respect, all H&R single shots rattle, but it's just the barrel release lever which when the barrel is locked up, will be loose and rattle. I'm not saying it's not a poorly fitted barrel, cuz that's happened before, but not all that often, they are hand fitted and sometimes bad things happen when people are involved in building things.  :-\  One other source of a rattle is a loose stock bolt, which isn't normal or serious, but does happen occasionally.

I understand that the lock release shood be loose but this barrel actually rocks side to side in the receiver when locked up and that is the rattle noise. Hopefully they can get a new barrel properly fitted and returned to me asap. Have two other barrels fitted to this receiver and have been unable to shoot because they have had the receiver and sending it back prolongs the agony.

a few years ago I had a 204 barrel fitted. when locked up, it was not! very loose and would not shoot worth a hoot. returned it, came back fairly snug, shot better, but not acceptable. it found a new home, said never again. thought I would give them another try. this time I am haveing a 45-70 barrel fitted to same receiver, now we shall see.
