360DW in .357mag H&R ?
« on: June 26, 2010, 02:25:43 PM »
read some of the old posts about using .360DW brass in the long chambered .357mag handi guns, but i looked around today to find some brass to no avail.... nobody i saw online had any in stock.

dont really want to rechamber it to .357max, as 95% of the time it would be used with .357mag or .38 loads, but i do like the idea of having a small stash of .360 brass for working up some heavy bullet loads to try.

anyone know of a source for the 360brass?  and for those that have used the .360 loads in your .357 handi guns, how did you find those loads performed?

I've shot quite a few, and I currently have about 100 pcs. that I reload.  I can push jacketed bullets pretty hot, but I don't reload to max in hardly anything.

You can use max. brass and trim it.

I also suggest you contack Reed's ammo as they had some a while back at a reasonable price.

Use the search for 360 Dan Wesson, you'll get lots of hits, select just this forum from the list. Midway has it about once a year, Starline has it listed unavailable until backorders are sufficient. Grafs has Max brass which many folks cut down to use in their 357mags, same thing for the 360 tho, I had to trim 360 brass .010" to chamber it. The Max rechamber won't change the jump to the rifling any, it's already that way!! Might as well rechamber it and reap the benefits of all three rounds.

Long throats in the 357mag have been discussed in detail a time or three.  ;)

I couldn't agree with Tim more.  The Max is the way to go.  It doesn't destroy your spare change, and you already have the brass.  I don't even mess with the .360, cause the Max will outdo anthing it can accomplish.  Plink and small game with the .38s, anything up to deer with the Mags, and anything east of the MS River with the Max.  Not likeing them at all, I only have two Handi .357 Maxis.

Curious, how come no one rechambers for the .357 Super Mag, which is even longer than the Max?

Good luck finding a Supermag reamer and brass, the 35 Remington would be a more practical step up, although not a likely hand ream option, not saying it can't be done by hand, never tried it.....yet!  ;D

The length difference is minuscule as well.
