Well I don't have to worry about man-eaters here in Dixie, so I could be happy with my H&R 22 Hornet, Remington 870 20 gauge, and Browning BAR 30-06.

I am kinda like Sourdough in that I have lots of guns made in lots of calibers by lots of companies. I will avoid falling in the 700 debate even though I love them since this is the H&R board.

Live simple. Hunt Hard. Love Life.

I thank God everyday for my loving wife and all the fond memories of hunting with my Papa from a child until now.

Please take time to take a kid hunting, it will be a life long memory and blessing for both of you!

Petemi:  I have a JC Higgins 12ga pump.  I took it to a gun shop and they told me it was a Winchester 1300, made for Sears.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The older "Ted Williams" Sears pump gun where Model 12 Winchesters.  My buddy has one that his dad bought new, it still goes with him every year to a swamp in mid-Michigan looking for whitetails.

Mine is stamped J.C. Higgins Model 20-12ga.  No "Ted Williams" anywhere.  I hadda go look at.  It's standing loaded by the back door just now.....I've got a fox problem.  It's a great old gun, and still in about 98% condition.  I think when my dad got it for me it was about 69.95.  The wood forend looks heavier than a Model 12 to me, but I don't have one to compare.

When I was a kid, a neighbor took me trout fishing.  Then I joined the Junior Rifle Club.  Then I got a subscription to Field and Stream and got hooked on Robert Ruarks "The Old Man and The Boy".  My dad never hunted or fished, but he bought me what I needed and took me hunting and fishing.  He was a great dad.

Pete,

Maybe I am losing it.  I just did a quick search and all I can find for Ted Williams/Sears are Model 200s, which are actually Model 1200 Winchesters, Not a model 12.   I'll keep looking but am almost 100% sure that my friends gun is a Model 12 not a 1200 but you know how it goes with CRS.

I have an old copy of that book.  "THE OLD MAN AND THE BOY". I told my daughter that that would be required reading for my grandson. He's is almost 6 now, but I hope that it will be his first novel. Great piece of literature.
