I have to say with out him I really don't think I could of done it.
We both some time back purchased a blank camo laminated forearm here on GBO.I did PM him and after we got talking he was very helpfully in explaining what has to be done on the forearm step by step.I was in N.C. for the winter months got back home in May but ran into a few problems about my tools beltsander down chop saw my son was using and so on.I pm him we talk and I had a few ? for him because I wanted to start the forearm for the 243 cal. setup.I was lucky to buy a rear thumb hole stock from a board member all I needed was the forearm.
He was nice enough to do mine came out great;I did fit it tonight to the SB2 action :The rear spacer needed to be shimmed and the barrel channel needed to be sanding in a few spots i used my dremel to open the barrel lug channel a little more inletting black, all in all came out great.I would say he did 95 percent of the work .
I will post a few picture when I totally finish the forearm stock
I would say since the blank was longer he did a excellent job it making it about 1 1/2" longer Wider and more like the var minter forearm.

Thank you

Yep he is agreat guy to deal with along with many others on this site. I asked him some ?s about refinishing stocks and he got right back to me and was very informative. I have now refinished all my handi's except the one with a composite camo stock and my 1940 model 1900 12ga. I also just refinished a hawkins 50 cal.
many thanks to all !

Andy cut a butt stock into an English style straight grip for me and gave me some great tips on how to refinish it. I have since turned into a straight grip junky because of it  ;D

Yup, Andy's a great guy!  I wouldn't have found this forum if it weren't for him!  Thanks for the reminder to pay a compliment where a compliment is due.   ;)

Andy is simply superb.  He's there whenever you need him with the proper advice.  When things were going poorly with the Tim's Rifle project, he's the guy that kept me on track.  Thank you Andy...ya done good.

No Andy, Bill Graham, Graybeard, deserves the credit.  It was my idea, but Bill swung the deal with Wayne York to do the work, and that was the greatest part of it.

I 2nd that MPS RET offered to help from my first post here on Graybeards. He is full of helpful knowledge and even offered to cut down my shotgun's stock. You don't meet many like him any more.
Thanks MPS RET

Hi Rick, aka Lonewolf5348, thanks to you and to the others that have posted here. I was away at the camp working on it for a few days and got back just before midnight last night to find this thread. I am at work now and wanted to take the time to say thanks to all of you for the good words. Rick, I'm glad you are satisfied with the forearm, I learn more on each and every stock or forearm I do and hopefully some day they will all be just as you guys want them. It seems that even in this day of mass production a forearm fitted to one barrel/reciever combination may fit a bit differently on another barrel or reciever. I believe this has to do with the placement of the barrel forearm attachment stud on each barrel. There is some play built into the system but that still leaves room for individual fitting....<><....:)

Lonewolf: that there is a very nicely and well done Job. I,personally, am not into thumbhole stocks--more like the English grip or straight grips, but I must compliment you on a well done job. Nice work. Blessings to all.

Goofy/Grumpyoldfart, if you have a pistol grip stock you want redone into a straight stock get in touch with
me and I'm sure it could be worked out. I myself am really growing to like straight grip Monte Carlo stocks.

MSP RET : sorry for the long delay in responding, but I've been busy being a "taxi driver" for several of my friends so as they could get to work and back. I'm retired and am available to help out in a pinch plus building computers from recycled old ones and parts for the kids in the hood w/ Linux. At this point in time I only have 1. And it is an ultra handi in 30-30 with a synthetic stock. been toying with the idea of putting some purty wood on it, but dang, it shoots as is better than I can. So, I think I'll leave it alone and just shoot it as is. My sister passed away about a year and half ago and I found out that I'm left some money from the estate and with special orders in the will to buy myself some "toys". Damm, I miss my sis. she knew what my hobbies were and even in dying remembered her baby brother. :'(.  When that comes to me, I think that I'll get a handi 45-70 of some sort and play with trapdoor loads (somewhat recoil sensitive in my old age, only in the shoulders not the hand cannons-they're nooo problem) and maybe a 30-06 because I have many hundred of them waiting for a new toy. I'll probably go with wood so if I have any problems with that, I'll definitely be in touch with the "expert" ;D ;). Thank you for your kind offer. God Bless to All.

Don't mean to Necro a thread. just didn't want you to think that I wasn't appreciative. :)

ETA: one thing I learned this weekend-- went to Atterbury shooting range and learned that my eyes now require the use of scopes at 50yds on onward. Eyes ain't what they used to be, old age sucks.

Good to hear from you buddy and keep up the good work. What I can suggest is find a steel bar that came with the Ultra Slug guns (try the classifieds) or make one up from a copper pipe filled with lead shot, or any suitable heavy item and put it in the hole in the buttstock where the stock bolt goes. It will really help recoil for ahe 45-70 and the 30-06. You could also add another slip on Limbsaver eecoil pad (size medium should work) over the standard issue recoil pad. With those two simple and firrly inexpensive modifications shooting trapdoor loads in the 45-70 it will be like shooting a small caliber rifle, nothing to complain about at all. They will even tame the mighty '06.  If you ever need something done with wooden stocks just give me a shout....<><....:)
