dcjle,
Swedish Mausers whether M96 rifle, M94/M38 carbines, are being sold today in original condition from $150 to $450.  Sporterized Swedes can generally go from $200 on up to whatever the buyer will be willing to pay???  This one sounds quite nice and should make you very happy.  The 6.5x55mm cartridge is a wonderful deer getter and is used back in Sweden for Moose!  I own one and love the smooth action, great accuracy and most of all, the lack of a nasty kick.  Can shoot it all day at the range w/o shoulder discomfort on bags.
savageT........Have you hugged a '99 lately?

Congratulations!  The swedes are great little rifles.  The 98 was an improvoment mostly in it's handling of high pressure gas in a burst case/pierced primer situation..  But the Swedes are fanatastic rifles.  When they were first imported in quantity I bought five and with some friends ordered 50.  They were in excellant shaped and we bought the for $50, delivered.  The first I sporterized huilt in the early 1900(teens I think) shoot a group of less than 3/4 inch with the first load the guy tried..  I've since sporterized quite a few and have never had one that wouldn't shoot sub-minute of angle with nearly any load.  The 6.5x55 is a great deer cartridge and with 125 Partitions kills like forked lightening..  The Swedes use the heavier 156 grain bullets and it's great penetration to kill moose easily...  I no longer sporterise matching number weapons because of their value but still find the occassional barreled action to build a nice sporter on..  I usually leave a 25-26 inch barrel and convert to cock on opening plus the normal adaptations needed for scope mounting..  Have one in the shop now I'm building into a mannlicher, maybe for my son??  Don't hotrod the round and these little rifles will live forever..
