.357 out of production?

Is the .357 out of production again? I remember at one time a LONG time ago there was a chamber or throat problem that caused a lot of them to be re-camber for .357 Max or a wild cat based on a .30/30 or .444. Are there any custom makers making them?

The only reason I know of that they are being bored to max. is that we can take advantage of the max's better ballistics for hunting, while still being able to use the .38 SPL and .357 mag.

They're still current production and one of their most popular offerings, it's never been out of production completely, the 357 Mag acc barrel has always been available even when the complete rifle wasn't, it's now only available on an SB1 frame tho, no more SB2 versions.

Don said it.  And, you can reload the Max for just a few pennies more than a .38 special....why not ???  No, I believe they are in current production, but I wouldn't buy one on a SB1 frame, but that's just me.  SB2 frames for all centerfire rifles, that's my philosophy.  My .357s are maxi, my.44 is .445 Super Magnum and my .45LC is soon to be .454 or .460. on SB2 frames.  I don't have to worry about pressure, or about mixing them up and putting them on a SB1 frame.

I went back to the website and found the complete rifle. It is in the synthetic section. I believe the way to go is a re-barrel on a center-fire SB2 receiver, but I couldn't find the barrels. This was years ago on a board on the NEF site. Pre-Marlin, I think the people were complaining about .357 were in accurate except with long heavy bullets. The board was canceled by the company. I think because member were advocating things the company could not endorse.

Accessory barrels are on the Customer Support page, the 357mag and 44mags are the only two rifle barrels they'll fit to any SB1 shotgun or SB2 rifle frame made since 1987.

I swear it showed no longer available last time I checked it. Maybe it was only the one with sight that's no longer available. Can they be fitted to about any SB1 receiver? I think some one told me they would not fit the slug gun recievers.

The Ultra Slug frame is an SB2 shotgun frame, not to be confused with an SB2 rifle frame, they won't fit any barrels to it except the 10ga and 12ga USH barrels.

The factory .357 SB1s are just fine for conversion and cheaper.

The 357 Max rechamber is a good choice easily done by hand, you can still shoot 38spl, 357mag and 360 Dan Wesson in it, see the 357 Max reamer sticky and 357 Max on an SB1 Frame in the FAQs sticky.
