Marlin 917V Report

So I got my new Marlin 917V 17HMR.
Cleaned and lubed it up. there was still metal shavings in the Receiver area
and around the Trigger area. Trigger was a horrid #4.25 with creep.
I replaced the Trigger spring with a Ball pen spring and got it to
a Horrid #3.75 with creep, Needless to say it needs some more work.
Overall it looks and feels pretty good.
So off to the range I go.
Got it sighted in within five shots using Hornady Vmax.
Trigger was #4.25 but felt like #6, changed out the Spring and got #3.75,
still feels over #5.
So far not real impressed with accuracy, only had time to shoot at 50yds.
17gr. Vmax averaged .64
20gr. Hornady XTP averaged .75
The groups did start tightening up as I went.
I also did a few shots at some busted Clays @ 100yds, aimed 2" low and tagged the clays every shot, It is good enough for Popping Squirrels  
One nice thing is it came with a 4rd Mag and a 7rd. Mag.

I've had a 917VS for a few years and it took a 100 rounds or so before the groups tighted up.  Sounds like my trigger is better than yours, it was #4 and crisp and I put the pen spring in for a crisp #3.  Mine also shoots almost dead on at 50 yards when sighted at 100.  The V-Maxs will hold a much tighter group over the 20gr game points, but the 20grs will come in under about .75" at 100 and well under 2" at 200, if it is not windy.

I did the spring trick to my 917-V also and the trigger is great now. My 17HMR will shoot under 3/4" all day every day at 100 yards. I shot the smallest group of my life with that rifle. It measured 1/8" center to center. Here is the target that was shot at 100 yards the bottom left target is the one that measures 1/8" the other target I pulled the shot and it opened it up to over an inch. Mine likes the 17 grain V-Max best and I have tried about all the ammo out there. Here are a couple pictures. Take care Dale

Update:
So I got the Trigger to #3 
So back to the Range with a small variety of Ammo.
Hornady Vmax, CCI Vmax, Federal Vmax, Hornady XTP.
My rifle deffinatly prefers Federal Vmax and Hornady XTP.

I have the wood stock version in 17Mach II and I love it. Shoots inside of an inch @ 100yds if the wind is ok.

Get pretty much the same results with mine, a 93BV17 (lam stock no thumbhole). I used a weaver classic V 4x14 ao.  Friend of mine suggests I try some 20gr and I'll see better groups at 100yrds.  I actually never shoot at 50.

I have the 917vscf it seems to shoot all the 20gr. stuff not so much on the 17gr.Ialso installed a rifle bassix trigger set at 1.5 no creep really nice upgrade.Well good luck with the marlin.
