I ventured back onto the H&R Handi Rifle page and.....
« on: June 11, 2010, 09:07:41 AM »
....and I appolgize to you all- I've repented and am now back here! :D
All my Handis are gone.
Nothing but Contenders in the house now. Been down both roads a LOT but there's nothing like the closer tolerances of a T/C Contender when you want a single shot with READILY interchangable barrels.
Actually I enjoy both rifles, just not going to do the H&R thing at least for a while if not from 'now on'.

Guess I ought to confess that I've had about a dozen Handi Rifles. They are the most gun for the buck you can get. Killed a few deer with them, too.
Just back over to the 'polished and purtty' Contenders for a while.

I bought a used Handi in 243 Winchester and Burris full field scope.  At home I discovered the rings were used to hide dents on the scope tube.  I also didn’t like the heavy and odd unbalanced feeling, so I returned it for a full refund.  I am glad I did, I heard the 243 Winchester can be troubling.

Prior to the Handi purchase, I bought a Rossi youth in 22LR/410 for my daughter.  The 22 LR barrel shot ok, and the 410 ammo is very expensive.  I decided to sell it and bought a Savage Mark I youth in 22 LR, which is an excellent little single shot bolt rifle.

I have a blue T/C Encore with 454 Casull, 223 Remington and 209x50 barrels.  I love my setup and would never think of ever buying a Rossi or Handi ever again they are not for me.

The Rossi 410/22 combo is interesting.  The frame is very well made, the 22 barrel is OK, but the 410 barrel is pure junk.  The gun is far too light for a youth shooting even a 410 shotgun, I think mine weighs 4 1/2 pounds.  I rechambered the 22 barrel to 22 Mag and stubbed a 22 cf barrel into the 410 barrel and made a .22 Hornet out of it.  Now it is atleast useful.  Larry
