New Ultra 308 with transfer bar problem

I took my brand new Ultra 308 out today and on the fourth shot my transfer bar fell over backwards and locked the hammer at the cocked position. It shoots great but the transfer bar is too loose where it is hinged together and will fall over back toward the butt if the gun is tilted muzzle up while having the hammer cocked. It looks as though it has a small screw holding the two pieces together, am I correct? I really hate to send it in for repair if all I need to do is tighten the screw! Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

See broken transfer bar in the FAQs, it's peened together, no screw. You can buy a new one from Brownell's, H&R may send you one if you ask, you'll have to completely R&R the frame to get to it tho, see Perklo's trigger hone info in the FAQs and go to his site to download the instructions, might as well do a trigger job while in there. The other option is to send it to H&R for repair.

Thanks Tim! I read the FAQ after posting, looks as though there might be too much material taken off of one piece or the other. I tried pulling on my Ultra slug 20 and my 223 and they will not budge, so the parts might need replaced or the pin peened to tighten them up. I just hate the thought of sending it in and having to wait and the possibility of getting dinged up also. I had a friend send his receiver in to be fitted with a barrel and it came back scared up, even though he packaged it very well.

I only send the frame in when I get barrels fitted and order a stock set!!  But Remington has been doing much better on handling and packing, so I wouldn't be concerned about it as much, many folks put a synthetic or pallet wood stock set on them to avoid the problem.

I'm missing something here.  I never sent a stock in with the frame for new barrels.  Why would it be different with repairs?  Just send the frame, pack it well, and it will come home fine.

Yeah...sent in just the frame...AND have them fit TWO extra firing pins and return them WITH the repaired frame....IF they will do it...saves future problems if you happen to break a firing pin sometime.

Update on my 308 Ultra: Got a new transfer bar assembly installed and a 3 1/4lb trigger job . Now I cannot wait to get back from the beach to start working a load up for it.
