Digital green ??
« on: June 03, 2010, 09:14:08 PM »
I see our local dealer has some "digital green" A bolts at a reduced price .

They look like they might be a little too light with the white dots for the bush . Anyway there does not seem to be any rush on these guns .I guess if you did not like the colour , you could always paint it .
Do the dura touch stocks stand up otherwise? Have no experiance with these at all.
Any one have some experiance with these units in the field ?

Dunno how its gonna wear in the field, but I just bought one last night on GB. Range results are what I am more interested in. If the coating wears off I'll put some camo paint on it. If it shoots half as good as my other Brownings it'll still be great.

The A Bolts have a good rating from what I have read , and like wise I am intersted in Range results as well as ease in use . Am going to look at this rifle and  the 06 might just follow me home .
Hope to see this rifle goes better than the 358 BLR lite that was in for repairs more than at home.
I have a 338F tikka that is great in these two deptment  as well as a  winchester 70 300 WM before they closed, which is a nice unit also .Then there is the 307Big bore which will be the Bush gun.
Have a 308 Savage hunter series to trade . It puts them in there , but the cock on opening is a problem if you suffer from Arthrtis .

Well if the browning works out ! there is the problem of which one to hunt with .

Up date
Just went south for the eight or so hour drive and picked up this gun . Reading the manual when again home it is noted that one cannot get any chemicals like solvent or bug spray on the stock or it will be damaged .
It is soft to the touch and comes up for this ol' boy  instantly.
The rifle overal fit and fuction is very good , but not like the tikka. Then lets give it a hundred rounds!!
It will probably out shoot  the BLR Lite  given a bit of practice as the 60 degree bolt is fast .
A 3x9  bushnel scope is now on the top,and maybe next weekend to the range .
At just under five and a half in Canadian -think it is a good deal for a Demo.

I dont think you'll be sorry. All the A Bolts I have are slick as butter and most of em will shoot around half inch at 100 yards. Cant help but like them. Glad to know about the chemicals too. Good luck.

I hear they are rated for .25 " . Well the best Shootin" from this ol' Dutch / Canadain- is about an inch.
Played with it some at the house . Given time I would bet you could get two holes placed in a deer before the first bled .Should things work out , then maybe another in small bore for yokes !!

Well with moving and a few visits to the hospital for some medical  medical problems , today was the first day to the range with this gun .
Had some ammo loaded up for my wife's ruger , and found some that was full sized to be used for hunting , and away we went . Four rounds got the scope correctly on 2" high @ 100 , then three into a 3/4" group . So that is good for this boy. We just Load some more 180 "s over H 4350 , and shoot some more .
I found the rifle indeed a jewel to operate and shoot . I am not used to a push feed , where all my "others" were control round feed . I did try to load a round once with one already in the barrel .
I am sure it was the operator just needing to practice a few more times .

Being in the safe , the stock seems to have taken a stain and is somewhat darker arround the barrel channel .Maybe we can make the whole stock a bit more green . We see in due time.
Over-al rating of a bolt ?? I will not be sorry I bought this gun as it seems to be a keeper  ;)

Good shootin' rugerfan.64.

I have not been back to the range . then I was happy with the way it shot first hand , so just loaded a few more with the same brass and  load .
Once this heat wave clears , I go out and shoot some more .
Then too there is a Tikka in 338 F and Winchester model 70 in 300 Wm who say they wanta come too!! .
Too many place's take my time .

My wife has yet to take the '06 A bolt out  . It weighs a little less than her Ruger mark 2 . Then again she has never missed a Moose with her gun over the last 15 years , so lets things be .
Have offered to update it , but she is  likes the way it is set up.
