Misfire Problems with my Handi

I have a Handi rifle that was bought as a .243 and I sent it back and had a .450 marlin and 20 ga. slug barrell fitted to it.  I have had several problems with remington copper solid sabots and some lightfield sabots not firing every time.  Both were very accurate when they fird but who wants to use a gun you are not sure of?  Federal sabots also shot very well and I never had a misfire with them so I have been using them and assumed I would just have to live with it.  I was using the 450 marlin this year and had a deer sneak down to me and when I squeezed the trigger all I got was a click and no fire.  The primers are always dented on each misfired case.  I am now a little uneasy about carrying the gun.  I am squeezing the trigger all the way so the transfer bar should not be an issue.  Are there any adjustments that I can make to the firing pin to get it to protrude a little farther or possibly a new spring?  How would I know if the spring is bad or not?  The misfires are aggravating and I would like to not have to worry about it anymore.

Remove the hammer extension and try em, if it works replace the hammer spring with a Wolff extra power spring(single coil for a modern frame) from Wolff or Midway and check pin protrusion. Weak hammer springs are a common problem, sometimes even on new firearms.

I had that trouble till I found out it was ME! ;D

 The Handi likes to have the trigger fully engaged, (squeezed), to work properly. Something about the transfer bar dropping. They are a little different than many other style trigger's.

 Next time out shooting, concentrate on a full-slow trigger squeeze, and hold the trigger back all the way. I always know I'm doing the proper trigger thing when I hear "bang", then the  "klatch" of the trigger being released after.

Having the trigger pull set too light can also cause the problem, there is not enough tension on the trigger to keep the transfer bar up until the hammer hits it.  Larry

i have a NEF 20ga pardner smoothe bore and it has never had a misfire out of about 500 shots
