Yesterday I tried loading two of my cartridge revolvers with balls to see what happens. A Ruger 32 H&R and a 44 mag. Unsized cases, FFFg powder, felt lube wad, and a ball - .433 in the 44, 0 buckshot in the 32. Seated with an arbor press. The 44 worked great, very accurate to 100 yards, bouncing cans around at 50, pretty much the same effect as the Old Army. Of course the point of impact was way low due to the light bullet, so kentucky windage was used to good effect. The 32 was another matter - not enough pressure to reseat the primer after it fired, so they would back out and lock up the gun. The balls shot accurately, recoil was nil, but it became a slow single shot that I had to remove the cylinder after each shot. I guess if I wanted to do that again I'd have to drill the flash holes open on some dedicated cases. Nowhere near as fun as the 44 loads! I'd hoped the 32 would work well, because buckshot is pretty cheap and I have a lot of it. Back to the drawing board on that one.
