« on: May 30, 2010, 03:22:37 PM »
I have a 500sw mag. handi rifle and it will barely chamber factory ammo...i have some hunting shack munitions 350 grain ammo and it measures 5.20 outside diameter at the crimp and it barely chambers.....my reloads using the 385 grain remington hollowpoint bullets measures 5.30 w/o any crimp and it positively will not chamber....should i send the gun back in for a chamber fix???????

.530 is the maximum size for a round.  What is the diameter behind the crimp?  Also at what point does it stop going into the chamber?  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

This would be a first for handi to have to small a chamber.

You could have a small chamber...the last one cut after the reamer was reground, worn or minimum SAAMI specs.

It does sound like an undersize chamber.

Will it chamber a sized case, no bullet, easy or hard?

If it were mine I would make a chamber cast first to determing the actual chamber size or use a small hole guage to measure it.

ANY machine shop worth it's salt will have pin guages that can be used also to get the OD at the mouth of the chamber or inside mikes to measure with.

If those number come up kraps I would send it back...

I agree with WT...I've seen very FEW undersized factory chambers.
