Absolutely! A Deacon this morning before taking the offering, in a somewhat smoother version of mine, reminded us that, Memorial Day is "not a holiday", to go to the lake, get drunk, bbq, and celebrate. It is a day to remember (MEMORIAL) the ones that gave everything so that others could go to the lake, get drunk, bbq, and celebrate. I'm just not sure what their celebrating.

From my family,Thank you to all vets past and present for keeping us safe. I also tell my grandkids the meaning of this day
as I told my kids. Today we will see our grandkids ride the Little League float in the parade.  ;D

 I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to remember what Memorial Day is. It seems so bittersweet to "celebrate" on such a day that was set aside for those who have given their lives for our freedom. Please remember those men and women as you enjoy your day off of work or Bar B Que with your family. To all who serve (and their families), past and present, thank you just doesn't seem like enough!

Being one of those veterans not yet gone but knowing several personnally that are gone, I will tell you that everyone of them that I know firmly believed that Memorial Day, while a day to remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice is also a day to BBQ, have a beer (I didn't say get drunk), spend time with family and friends, and for some of us old battle buddies.  For most of us that served, it was for the preservation of the constitution and our freedoms.  I like to pause while working the grill and remember Mr John the WWII Ranger, Manchu the sawed off wild man that held his battle buddy in his arms as he passed away during Tet 1968, and CPT K the most squared away PL I ever worked with that died when a homicide bomber blew a VBIED at the main gate into the his FOB.  All men to be emulated, warriors.  May they and all the other rest in peace.

A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, 

 National Guard  or Reserve - is someone who, 

 at one point in his or her life, wrote 

 a blank check, made payable to 

 "The United States of America"

  for an amount of "up to and including my life."
That is honor, and there are far too many people 

 in this country  who choose to no longer

  understand such a commitment.
