The gun was made in 1934 by JP Sauer and is marked 7mm. is it a 7x57R or 7x57 Mauser?

could be 7x65R. There is a code stamped for how many lead balls per pound or something like that for the caliber designation.

Case length is probably indicated somewhere on the bottom of the barrel, rimmed or rimless can be determined by looking at the extractor.

99% chance that it's not the 7x57. Few rimless calibers were used for hunting rifles mostly rimmed. Any 7mm would be a good rifle in a drilling for stateside use.
