Well me and the Bear Kodiak recurve headed back to the range

Well today I just worked with the Bear Kodiak recurve, as I have been getting way to much practice time in with my modern compound bows 

Now this first picture was just taken for effect in front of this black bear mount:


Here is a 4 arrow group, shot using fingers instead of a tab or glove to shoot with.  I need to work on getting them center on the target, but shooting instinctively takes practice.  I decided after today, that my next new bow will be a Traditional Recurve for sure.  I pulled one new bow today just checking it out, and it felt like I was pulling the Bear Kodiak which is a 45 lb bow, but this bow was marked 55# and felt so nice and smooth.

Anyway here is my 20 yard group shot instinctive and with fingers.

Your tougher than I am. I use a three fingered archery glove to protect my old hide, and an arm guard on my left inside forearm. I have had the string wad up surface veins before and didn't much like it.

Dee, I have something very simalar to these No Glove Finger Savers here, but rest assured my next bowstring will have these to.

Dee the one I have on the Kodiak is smaller in diamiter, and looks as though it came on the bowstring.  I have shot a Darton recurve with the above No Glove Finger Savers, and it was real nice to shoot without the hassle of a tab or gloves getting in the way.  I like to feel the bowstring with my fingers.  When my fingers feel like a need a break, that is what I do.  I shoot far more accurately with fingers than with a tab or glove on.

These are just a $5.00 investment that I think you will really like, and probably shoot more as a result.

Sure you have Dan!  You just forgot!    I know I did until I saw ther picture!     I was usin them when I put down my Bear Kodiak Magnum for a compound with a release.   They are sooo much better then a glove!  No offense Howard and Fred...    Think I'll look at my bow when next I slink to the man cave... they should still be on the string.

Dee let me know if you can not find them, as we have them down at Flaming Arrow Archery just $5.00 on the shelf no tax.  Richard, I have set aside the modern compounds for now as I have two very nice modern bows to shoot.  But there is just something gripping me like never before to just shoot the traditional Kodiak recurve.  I supose I will get an even harder bite after my longbow is finished and proper arrows are bought for it too 

I've already told my wife that the next NEW bow will be a very nice recurve bow.

My oldest boy is into the compounds and tried to get me interested. I shoot an old Bear, and don't want anything else. Started with an old Ben Pearson back in the 50s, and still have the solid fiberglass Colt I shot as a teenager. And yes, it was sold by Colt Firearms. Has the logo on the hand piece.

Scout4 - A bit of information on your arrows there.  Those look real nice, and when magnified look even better.  I noticed your FP's look real heavy weight, what grain are they?  Are those the arrows that you won off of E-Bay that I believe you talked about on another post?  What wrap did you use on your longbow handle there as well.

I'm looking forward to getting back to doing some shooting today, as yesterday I was pretty sick and just had to stay home.  But today, I'm getting out and getting some more shooting done.  If our weather takes a turn for the better, I can get the bag targets out which are pretty much simalar to yours there, and head to where ever I want to.

Montanian, Those two arrows I made. They are 5/16" birch and spine maybe around 40# at the length they are with the 125gr. fp the fletches are wild turkey left wing feathers, the nocks are a standard plastic nock for that size arrow. These kind of arrows would spine out stiffer if cut a little shorter and used a lighter fp. That longbow is about a 40# pull. Hope you're fellin better! Thanks! scout4<><

I started using a batters glove to shoot my recurves with. The leather is extremely thin and allows you to really feel the string, but offers just the right amount of protection. I shoot 3 fingers under the arrow so a tab is out and most of the other type of gloves for shooting are just to thick and stiff. Course 30 some years ago when I started shooting bows I didn't even know what a tab or shooting glove was. Didn't find out about them until I bought my first brand new bow a Bear 76'er.
