Hi y'all:

New to the forums here.  Been lurking a while, just registered.  I have a Savage Arms question.

I see BudsGunShop.com has a model listed, the EDGE .308 for quite the deal - $ 268 delivered (plus FFL fee locally paid).

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/64232

Is anyone here familiar with this model ?

Any input would be appreciated !

Many thanks, E TX Minuteman    :D

i just bought a new savage edge in .243 yesterday. hopefully i'll get to shoot it this weekend, if i have time. i like it so far. the synthetic stock is a bit flimsy, but i like the shape of it. rifle seems to be pretty light. the detachable mag is nice, but it has a plastic/polymere catch on it, we'll see how that holds up. i would like to buy a couple extra mags, i don't know if they're available yet.  it has a nice soft recoil pad on it. if it shoots like a savage i'll be happy. i have so far mounted a bushnell banner 4x12 and a harris bipod on it. i took the stock off to see if i could mount another stud to attach a sling, the stud that comes with it is screwed into a boss it the stock and the rest of the stock ahead and behind it seems to thin to risk drilling another hole in it for a screw in stud, which is all i have on hand. i just put the sling on the bipod. it is definitely an "entry level" rifle, which is good for me as a truck/farm/bad weather gun. if i get a chance to shoot it this weekend i'll let you know how it goes.

243, hope you like the new rifle !

The detachable mag feature does sound nice.  I was also wondering if they'll be readily available, how soon, how much, etc.

I think you're better off using the bipod stud sling attachement - (if my experience is any guide) they're solid on my other rifles.

I was asking on a different topic about the wisdom of using steel case ammo in this rifle.   Can you speak to this at all ?

Many thanks,

E TX Minuteman   ;)

i made it out to the range this afternoon, i took the new savage edge and three different kinds of ammo, 80 grn rem psp, 80 grn fed blue box, and 80 grn win super x silver box. after about six rounds i was ready to head out to the hundred yard line. was kinda windy today, i tried to shoot between gusts of wind. my best group is in the pic and was about 3/8 inch at 100yds ;D with the win silver box, letting the barrel cool for a few minutes between shots. shooting back to back, groups opened up to about 1 inch. rem psp shot about the same. worst group was about 1 1/2 inch with the fed, but it was windy. i love this rifle ;D nothing better than an inexpensive rifle with an inexpensive scope and cheap ammo shooting 3/8 inch groups.

Bitter Christian Clinging to your gun (243shooter):

Wow, if you're gonna cling to your Bible & your gun, you sure picked an accurate one !

Somehow I don't think the .308 will shoot quite as tight, but maybe close.  Sounds like you have a keeper there.

Thanks for the pics & range report.

I gotta sell another rifle, before I can jusify the .308 EDGE bolt gun to the wife, so I'd better get busy.....

God bless you & all of us 'bitter clingers',

E Texas Minuteman   ;)

PS:    Thinking of the the guy who is infamous for saying that, what do you suppose he's 'bitterly clinging to' ?
My guess: It sure ain't a copy of his U.S. birth certificate !

If anything I'd bet on the .308 beating out the .243 in accuracy.
