30AR, 308 Marlin Exp, 338 Marlin Exp
« on: April 23, 2010, 05:04:10 AM »
I was reading the article in Rifle Magazine concerning Freedom Group and what firearm related companies come under it.  I know caliber wish lists are fairly common on this forum but I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were about the potential for the 30AR, 308 Marlin, or 338 Marlin in the Handi Rifle.  Further, what chances do you think that one of these might eventually be included in the Handi lineup.  I personally would like to see the 30AR in a Handi, but I have somewhat different tastes from most firearms purchasers.

The 338 MX has been discussed extensively in the 338 MX poll, whether it or any of the others that have been asked for in the wish list will ever happen is another thing tho.  ::)

The 30AR gives you no advantage over a 30-30 with 125 gr bullets.  I would like to see the rimmed rounds available though.  that's what I would like, but again for practical purposes, the 308 Marlin would give no advantage over the .308 nato and the nato round is available everywhere.  You would never have a problem finding ammo.  I would like to see the .338 available!  44 Man

All true, and I remember the 338 Marlin pole.  I think the 338 would sell (initially anyway), its rimmed case is perfect for he Handi, and it would fill a niche that is unfilled in the Handi lineup especially considering the problems they have had with the 35 Whelen.  Hopefully the new 35 Whelen releases due this year will not have all of the misfire problems noted in the past.  It just seems like the corporate heads would push for the inclusion of the new cartridges to help with ammo sales and recouping the development costs.

I think one in the 338 caliber would be a very good candidate, but can't see them doing anything special for us. Heck, they won't even offer the standard cartridges in the longer 26" barrels,or 24" bull barrels, let alone introduce something really new. :'(

I can say if you want a 338 caliber Handi, save your pennies and let out site sponsor Wayne York of Oregunsmithing make you one..you won't be disappointed..I had a awesome 26" 338-06 A-Square done up and it was a great one. Quick and a couple others have one too..and it's worth a close look if interested..cause he can build you just about any caliber you could want.

I was actually hoping for the 30AR.  I would love to see the 6.8 SPC, but gave that up since Remington seems to have given it up, but now was wondering about the 30 AR.  I agree that is quite a long shot.  Of the 3 I listed, the 338 Marlin would seem to have the greatest chance.
