I'm finally back, Thank God
« on: April 20, 2010, 05:49:24 AM »
My satelite went out two weeks ago this Friday, and Hughs net just now fixed it.  I've been back on line for 15 minutes and am trying to catch up.  Please, all of you, be patient with this old fart, I've got a bunch to do here.  Love ya all. :-* :-*

Pete, You've had two weeks to reload now you should be out shooting  ;)

If you'd move a little closer to civilization you could have cable or Wy-Fi and never be down ;D

Nah, stay back in the boonies! I enjoy the time I get to spend back at my camp on the river that separates me from the hustle and bustle of life!

Good to have you back Pete!!!

Welcome back Pete, from another old fart.  We were thinking about getting Hughes Net up at our camp in the mountains when we finally get to spend significant time up there.  I hope we have better luck if we do.

Glad your back!

Welcome back Pete, from another old fart.  We were thinking about getting Hughes Net up at our camp in the mountains when we finally get to spend significant time up there.  I hope we have better luck if we do.

I thought I had my .223 "on paper" and this morning dusted a chuck on my south field at about 275 yards.  That was with some Wolf FMJ junk.  Midway tells me the rest of my reloading stuff is on the way. ;D ;D ;D  Hopefully this time next week I'll be shooting my own loads.

The Hughs tech guy told me that Hughs "retired my satelite" and that's why I lost my internet......He lined it up on another and I'm back in business.  The thing that ticks me off is why I wasn't taken care of before I lost service, and why did they act as though I had tinkered with the system or damaged it.  They told me I was out of warranty and would have to pay a 125.00 service charge........Well, that's one that won't get paid.  We'll see what happens next.

The other good news is that a brand new .30-30 barrel with open sights arrived yesterday from a member here.  It jumped right on my 7mm-08's frame.  One shot, 25 yards, on paper.  One windage adjustment and 3 shots dead center touching at 50.  I gotta believe I'm gonna love that little rifle.  The 7-08's barrel is looking for a new frame :o ::) ;D

Hey, welcome back home Pete!  Hughs sounds like my security system co., it wouldn't communicate with the phone line and they charged me to come and adjust it.  Strange that equipment they own has to be charged to you when it's time for getting it adjusted.  Anyway, GLAD YER BACK!!!!  DP

Patty's got Wild Blue at work and loves it.  We tried to get it here, but they were "booked up".

I'm all charged up.  My reloading kit has been shipped, including all my dies, and I'm sorting thru brass, trying to figure out what bullets, primers and powder to use.  It's a whole new trip for an elder guy.  I can't wait to get started.  I think I'm gonna start with .38s and work up from there.

"Dusted a chuck at 275 yards."

I can't imagine what it would be like to have that kind of room to roam! Our lots where I live are 30 yards wide! A 275 yard shot would cross a bunch of property lines! I think that I could live without cable or wi-fi, but there's the little lady, ya know!

Anyway, welcome back.

Parson48....as my Florida Cracker wife would say, "Y'all Come, the latch string is out".  It took me fifty years to find her and the same to find this place.

I made a decision about 30 years ago that I was going to find work where I wanted to live and not live where I had to work.  I was tired of city life and was single and headed out.  I lost thousands a year, but never looked back.  It costs more in some ways to live in the country, but saves money in others, so it's a tradeoff.

I have 120 acres. a wonderful remodeled old farm house. barn, outbuildings, and every possible convenience.  The last I'm working on is a wind generator.  There's no time payments on anything.  You just adjust your lifestyle to your income....it doesn't hurt at all, and it works.

Good luck,

Pete

Marv, I'd never make it to 9 pm central.  That'd be 10 here and about two hours past my bedtime.  We're usually up between 4 and 5 am eastern.  If I get a fit of insomnia, I'll be sure to be there.  Thanks for the invite.

No Tom, not really.  I just got this rifle put together, and it works.  I put it on paper at 35 yards thinking it might be close at 200.  I never thought it would demolish a chuck at 275.  It's a keeper and you'd have to fight me for it.

I did the same thing as you a few years ago Pete. Got tired of living in the city and decided I would somehow make it work in the country. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Patty is one hell of a woman, she did some outstanding bid proposals for the government last year that got her company about 30 million in contracts for this year.  They gave her a nice bonus at the end of the year and right now are installing a new geothermal heating/air conditioning system for us since we're getting too old to handle wood.  It's almost finished.  All they have left is hooking up the domestic hot water.  If we go ahead with the wind generator we should be set here in the frozen north in our old age.  Hopefully Patty'll retire by the end of this year.
