.219 donaldson wasp
« on: April 07, 2010, 11:20:49 AM »
I have a brief question about a 2.19 donaldson wasp.  I've been thinking to do this on a T/C action.  I had a gentleman comment to place it on a H&R action.  That may work also, perhaps.
Is it do able?  Here is his comment, would this work?  thoughts?
I'm going to go check out the extractors on my other H&R's to see if this would even work.  To go from a .22 hornet to .219 donaldson wasp, based off of a 30.30 rimmed case.

"Buy an H&R .22 Hornet break- action rifle , rechamber it to .219 DW , swap out the extractor for a 30-30 Win one and you are in business.

If you do that make sure you get dies that are the same as the chamber reamer because there are 2 case lengths and chamber specs - the standard , original case and one that is short by the thickness of the case rim. Ask me how I know this ...

Form brass from 30-30 cases , or buy ready-formed brass , use 45 grain pills and have fun."

 Chigger I have a @19 Zipper on a H&R 22 hornett, reason with zipper
is because I had the dies. It is a doable Only thing I widen the ejecter
on the barrel with moto tool w/thin cutting blade.
 my son did same thing.
My dies will not size 30-30 brass where it work good it will work good
on 25-35 brass. WE both shoot 52 grain bullets with ample load IMR 4895.
It will out do any 223 !     Datil

Welcome chigger! I think what Marv meant is the ejector notch in the barrel face has to be enlarged for the 30-30 ejector which is wider, I don't know if that is true on an extractor barrel tho, don't have one in either chambering, My Hornet and all three 30-30s are/were ejectors. The Hornet ejector or extractor could also be cut down to work on the Wasp or Zipper too, if you have a smith do the work, he'd do that for you. Spending considerable time reading in the FAQs and Help sticky to learn more about H&Rs will help ease your learning curve.  ;)

The D-W is a nice round. I have one in a highwall. My standard load is 29gr. of H-4895 with a 50 gr. bullet. Good for about 3,500 feet per second.

Haven't heard .219 donaldson wasp in a long while. No info on this, just a personal note.
I met Harvey Donaldson once back in the 60's, he was one of my best friends grandfather.
