Parker & Hale .30-06
« on: November 16, 2003, 05:33:29 PM »
I ran across a Parker & Hale .30-'06 at a gun show today and am interested if anyone has opinions on this rifle. It is a used Deluxe model with some engraving and all-in-all very attractive. The seller wants $300 for it.
Though I have done an internet search and know the rifle was made in England and that they made a well-thought of .303 in the past, I didn't run across any current information, so I am looking for opinions.

To confuse the issue, I have a Howa hunter .30-'06 on layaway, brand new of course, that would cost a little less.
Any opinions on the Parker&Hale (used) vs the Howa (new)?

I own a 1972 model Parker Hale sporter magnum. We bought it new for my father in '73 and he never shot it. He gave it to me several years ago and I have used it deer hunting every year. Mine has the drop-dead beautiful walnut stock with the cherry fore-end and the diamond inlay, checkering and Monte Carlo cheek weld. It is as accurate as it is pretty. They were made in Birmingham England (maybe still are?). They have a Mauser action. I just shot a coyote from 125 yards standing a week or two ago with it. I love this rifle. I think you could do alot worse. That sounds like a great price.

This one appears to have the same stock as you describe, far prettier than most rifles around. It does have a slight mar on the stock but nothing that refinishing couldn't cure, so, thanks- I think you pushed me over the hump.

I hope so. They really are great rifles. There are a few for sale on www.auctionarms.com and www.gunbroker.com for alot more than $300.00. You should grab it at that price. I currently have a cheaper 4x12 scope on mine but am going to a Leupold varix 2 after hunting season. Best of luck. I hope you get it.
