After a lot of reading and advice from this and other forums, I've decided to get the MKII SS Target with the long barrel.  I will certainly try it as it is but am pretty sure that I would rather a 5-6" barrel set up.  My question is whether I would be ruining a desirable barrel by having it cut and recrowned and be better off keeping it and buying (or trading) for a short barrel.  I will use a scope so it's probably going to cost ~$35 to have it cut if I dont mount a front sight.
Thanks

Sell it and buy what you want.  The 10" MKIIs are getting more difficult to find now therefore their value is going up.

Yes the Mark II values have risen and the 10" is rare now........ Keep it original...... you could make it a safe queen and I think it is a good reason to purchase another pistol!  ;)

Thanks Gentlemen, I'm convinced and won't alter it.  Doesn't seem too badly balanced, great trigger and it came with a Japanese Tasco scope  ;D. Can't wait to try it out.

Buy a "Tactical Solutions" upper for it to shoot, and keep the 10" upper. Or, even better stick it in the back of the safe and buy another pistol of your liking!

A friend of mine has been trying to sell a blue one with the 10" bbl for some time now.  No bites so far at $400.00.

You can probably get the length you want in trade - cutting the barrel will decrease the value of the gun around 50%...and cost you a lot of money to do that.

I found a 10" blue one a couple of weeks ago at a gun store - very good condition and I paid 285.00.  I couldn't pass on that price.

No way the 10" Ruger MK II is getting cut down, that pistol really shoots.  I get .2's at 25 yds and .5-.7 at 50 yds for 5 shots and that's with 'normal' ammo and only a 2x scope.  Just cut a deal for a 6" MK 1 because I like shooting it so much can't live with just one.  :D
