savage 340
« on: March 29, 2010, 05:42:55 AM »
i recently purchased a savage 340 in cal 30-30. it wasn't in great shape so i refinished the stock and reblued the barrel. it shoots great and accurate. i have a few high dollar rifles, so i felt i was lucky to get this rifle for $50.00. i never had a 30-30 before and so i am real happy to have this one. the only problem it has is the rear sight won't stay up so i went to williams gunsights and purchased a fp 340 for it and should have it in a couple of weeks. this gun has no serial # so i can't tell the age of it but i think it is old. i was wondering if any one here has a gun and fp 340 sight setup like this and if the fp 340 works with the factory front sight on this gun? any info ya'll got will be appreciated.  thanks searlock

I have an origional 340 rear flip up sight sitting here, $10.00 and it is yours.  The serial number would be on the left hand side under where the side mount scope base goes.  Larry

I have two of the Savage 340's in 30-30...great guns. For info on your rifle, try the web site   savageshooters.com  They have 340 experts there who can tell you just about anything you would need to know about your rifle.  If you can locate a spare magazine, you should pick one up...sometimes the internal spring breaks due to age, and the mags aren't made anymore.

brownells has replacement mags for $30.99. made by a company called wisner "on the original factory tooling" for 30-30, 222, and 223.
I'm just a bitter Christian clinging to my gun.
