tikka t3 magazines

Hello, I recently purchased a tikka t3 lite in .223 and really like the stock, action, bolt handle clearance, and trigger. The single stack mag is awesome, looks to be a very reliable feeder, but there is one thing that bothers me about it and that is the plastic lips that actually retain the cartridge. I am concerned about their longevity, do you think they will wear fast? Has anyone out there really put alot of rounds through the t3 mag and can report on how well they held up?  I am considering buying another t3 in 338 federal and was hoping to get a little feedback on this issue before purchasing. Except for .223 I'm not sure too many of us can afford to wear out a mag. They are spendy but if you are truly concerned I would pick up another. I intend to some day just because I tend to miss place things.

Don't mean to hijack, but will the 5 round mag work in the sporter model?  I got a 22-250 T3 lite.

 I have between 3 & 4 hundred down the tube in my T3 243 and the mag is still like new.

I would not worry about the magazine wearing out. After all the material is about the same as your polymer handguns, and they have been around for years with pleanty of people shooting a lot more out of a handgun then most of us shoot from our rifles. If you are still concerned about it watch Gunbroker, I just purchased a new Tikka T3 223 mag for $21.00. By the way great choice on your next puchase, I have one in 338Federal and love it. It turned out to be the best brush gun I ever used.

thanks guys for the quick replies! very good, it sounds like they should hold up for awhile anyhow. I did pick up a spare mag when I bought the .223 at grice's. sounds like you got a steal keyway! I think I paid close to $60 for mine. I was thinking about this a little more after I made this post, and you know most of the time when anyone does the most shooting its at the range and I usually just prefer to single feed when I'm there. which will cause zero wear to the magazine lips. so really the only time you have to worry about it is when your hunting. and I don't know where you guys are from, but here in PA anymore your not going wear much of anything out shooting at whitetails. lol.

The only concern maybe to put a limbsaver pad on a 338 Federal T3 to make it more of a pleasure to shoot.After that !! Never a problem, and I love the gun.

I to live in Pennsylvania just like you pahunter. The only wear and tear my Tikka goes through any more in Pa is 12 times a year you load the gun in the morning then unload in the evening. That gets boreing but it should not wear out the mag.

I think I would have to cut the stock to get the length of pull back in the ballpark after adding the limbsaver. I had my .223 apart just to see if I could shorten one if I did buy the 338 federal, it looks like you can. Anyone here cut a tikka t3 stock yet? (sounds like a question for another post) LOL keyway, I definitely can relate.

I took the factory pad off my t3 338 F and installed the limbsaver and noticed no differance in lengh of pull.
The pad goes make the 338 as well as a 300 WSM or WM a pleasure to shoot.
It was not any fun  just out of the box , as so many ready to change the rifle for something a bit more comfortable.
I really enjoy the chambering now after about fifty rounds to settle the rifle and started to print some groups .

thanks harry, very good to know. I will order the exact fit limbsaver pad for it. the rifle is still on order though, hopefully by the end of this week? thanks again.
